How bad is my carpal tunnel if when my hand goes to sleep i get an itchy spot on my palm right below my first and middle fingers & hurts in my elbow?

If weakness = bad: Carpal tunnel syndrome can display a number of different symptoms including the ones you have described. It is "bad" in a prognostic sense if the symptoms include weakness of the muscles to the fingers and thumb of the affected hand. The more and longer you have weakness of the hand the less likely surgery is able to relieve the weakness. Pain is pain if frequent and worsening you do the math ;). ...Read more

What are some finger/hand exercises that help prevent carpal tunnel?

What are some finger/hand exercises that help prevent carpal tunnel?

Prevention: I am not aware of any exercise that does this, but be aware that cts mostly is a cumulative trauma disorder, associated with repetitive flexion/extension of wrist due to keyboard work, assembly line work, etc. Might consider wrist pad for computer, might try wrist splints, at night, might supplement one b-100 complex daily, and avoid the above risks. ...Read more

Carpal tunnel: First I would ask you if carpal tunnel syndrome was diagnosed by physician or are you assuming this is what you have? You run the risk of permanent nerve damage. This is not terribly difficult or risky surgery. ...Read more

Correct diagnosis?: For carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist splints, topical anti - inflammatories, physical therapy to change the mechanics/ergonomics that are causing the problem, and acupuncture can be helpful. If you have progressed to the point of weakness and EMG confirms diagnosis surgery is a possibility. See neurologist or physiatrist to confirm ( other nerve irritation can cause similar symptoms. ). ...Read more

I woke up twice this past week withy fingers tingling numb on right hand. Took a few minutes to go away. I've read it's possibly carpal tunnel?

Numbness: This depends on which fingers were numb. If it was the thumb/index/middle fingers then it is likely carpal tunnel(pinching of a nerve in your wrist. If it was the ring and small fingers then it could be cubital tunnel syndrome(pinching of a nerve in your elbow). It is also possible that you could have a pinched nerve in your neck (cervical spine) that caused radiating numbness to your fingers. ...Read more
