I have a sharp pain on the left side of my collar bone. What can it be?

I have a sharp pain on the left side of my collar bone. What can it be?

Hard to say: The collar bone connects the arm to the torso. On one side is a joint called the acromioclavicular joint and it can be injured or become arthritic or inflamed. On the other side is the joint between the collar bone and the sternum which can have similar problems as well. You certainly would want to make sure it is not cardia related as well. Thank you for your question. ...Read more

My left collar bone hurts and the pain moves from my left side of the neck and continues thru the bone than goes to the back side of the bone.

Needs evaluation: The pain could be coming from a variety of sources. The most likely cause is musculoskeletal; it could be due to a muscle strain, or referred from the neck. However, the pain could also be non-musculoskeletal, coming from your lungs, for example. If it has persisted for more than a week and is not improving, i would definitely have it evaluated. ...Read more

More info needed: Without a complete history and physical answering your question would be likely inaccurate. If you are indeed having some chest discomfort below your left collar bone seeing your doctor would be the most helpful to determine what is going on here. Please see your doctor or if unavailable go to the emergency room. Good luck ...Read more

What could be wrong if my left collar bone pain that goes down my arm and up my neck.?

Pinched nerve: This sounds like it could be a pinched nerve in the cervical spine, which can cause radiating pain down the neck into the shoulder and down the arm. Alternatively, there could be shoulder pathology causing similar symptoms. Even upper lung pathology can cause similar symptoms. This can be difficult to differentiate so see a physician if symptoms persist. ...Read more
