Pain After Nerve Conduction Test
Pinched sciatic nerve. Neg emg test. Vibration sensation in foot. Would cortisone shot relieve vibration and enpingment? Have done pt for 5 months.
The brain and spinal cord communicates with what is occurring in the internal organs and limbs by nerve fibers where are like electrical wires with insulation (myelin) and the "copper" (axon). Within brain and spinal cord these nerves connect to other nerves via synapses on both axons and dendrites. A nerve can carry information regarding sensations, and ...Read more
Does nerve conductive study and emg prove nerve damage or nerve pain like sciatica? Can you have sciatic pain and normal results ftom these tests
Shows function loss: Emg and nerve conduction studies are very good at detecting nerves that have been damaged to the point where the nerves are losing function, but are not always sensitive to less severe damage that is causing nerve irritation without loss of function, or to disease elsewhere in the body, such as in the brain or spinal cord. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Nerves & muscles: Emg and nerve conduction studies are used to detect abnormalities of nerves and muscles. The test evaluates nerve roots as they exit your spine, the nerve plexus, peripheral nerves, the nerve-muscle junction, and muscle itself. It can detect pinched/compressed nerves (sciatica, carpal tunnel, and others), muscle disorders, neuropathy, and many other neuromuscular conditions. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I'm having nerve conduction tests for carpal tunnel. Couldl the same test show guyons tunnel syndrome?
Possibly: Depends on how detailed the neurologist or other physician is in performing the emg/ncv's. If your referring physician explains the need for testing the ulnar nerve in guyon's canal it can be done... In my experience most ' routine' EMG 's of the upper extremity will note conduction 'slowing' @ the elbow( cubital tunnel) but not @ the wrist... Best of luck! ...Read more
Have l5s1protusion back, leg pain11 week &footdrop2 week.Mri can't confirm drop.Emg&nerve study normal.No relief from nerve block 4 weeks ago.What next?
Unlikely: This would not be common. The sciatic nerve is a very deep structure and injury from im injection would be difficult unless the patient is very thin. The location if im injection in the gluteus is often in the upper outer region well away from the nerve. ...Read more
Sympathetic block: Having back soreness after a sympathetic injection is not unusual for the first couple of days if a posterior approach is used. Should not persist after that point. ...Read more
Foot pain for past 1.5 years. Foot tingling started couple months ago. EMG & Nerve conduction done results came back normal. How accurate are the test?
Generally accurate.: These tests are generally pretty accurate however this accuracy depends on the equipment and the skill of the person performing the tests. It is important to remember that even though the test results may show the nerves to have normal function, it is entirely possible to still feel pain. ...Read more
Pain Management: How long can the positive effects of a cervical facet joint nerve block diagnostic test last before retreatment (been 1 month now)?
Numbness tingling in index finger since 2012. No relief after carpel tunnel surgery. Mri showed nerve damage in neck. Can anything be done?
Negative EMG/nerve conduction study. Negative MRI of head/neck. Physical therapy no help. Weakness in left arm for 6+ months. What could it be?
Details: Without having more history or context, nor the results of what was done, it is difficult to make an assessment. Suggest you obtain a second opinion, whether it is here on a virtual concierge consult, or with other doctors either in your area or at a tertiary care center like Ohio State. ...Read more
Can you have peripheral neuropathy with negative nerve. Conduction tests? Tested positive for bilateral carpal tunnel
Carpal tunnel or PN: If your nerve conduction test showed you have carpal tunnel syndrome, that is your diagnosis. Your nerve conduction test is not normal or negative if this is the diagnosis. This is a good test for distinguishing these two conditions. It is possible to have rare kinds of neuropathy with a normal nerve conduction test- this is why it is important to have an interview and exam with the test minder ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
