What usually happens after facet joint injections?

What usually happens after facet joint injections?

Did the pain go away: Facet joint injections are a diagnostic and therapeutic tool that is employed by pain medicine specialists. The goal is to see if your familiar pain goes away in the immediate period after the facet blocks are completed and should this occur, then a diagnosis of facet pain is made and if and when the 'original' pain comes back, there are appropriate therapies that can be employed accordingly.

What typically happens after facet joint injections?

What typically happens after facet joint injections?

Hard to say: Depends on your pain issue. Facet injections are helpful and can be long-lasting, however if your get short lived relief you may need to get evaluated for a radiofrequency ablation for longer lasting relief (greater than 1 year of relief is typical).

If I have facet joint injections and they work short term what next? How bad do you have to be to get surgery?

If I have facet joint injections and they work short term what next? How bad do you have to be to get surgery?

If you get relief: From facet joint injections then you can have another injection called a medial branch block, which if the same relief is provided, then you would be a candidate for radio frequency lesioning or rhizotomy for longer term relief. Surgery is reserved for those who fail comprehensive non op rx and have a surgical indication ie.: something that can have a reasonable degree of good surgical outcome.

After epidurals, will facet joint injections still work?

After epidurals, will facet joint injections still work?

Facet Joint Pain: Radiofrequency procedures work well if a previous facet injection or medial branch block was performed with greater than 75-80% relief that was obtained. This is used to determine pain from facet joints. As with anything there are failures, but quite low if the block worked well. Risks are the same as with any spine procedure, no different. Rare that you would be worse off afterwards.

Explain kenalog (triamcinolone) facet joint injections?

Why?: Although I used to give them, studies by deyo, et al, and others more recently, have shown little benefit over a systemic steroid injection. The injection is delivered to the facet joint, the true synovial joints of the spine. Afcet joints problems are likely if you have pain with backward extension of your spine.

Ok, had facet joint injections-thoaracic, after epidurals failed...What is next pain mang 4 thoracic spine 6 bulgd disc, help, sugg?

Bulging discs: The fact that there are bulging discs, might have nothing to do with your pain. There are lots of people with bulging discs (a normal phenomenon of aging) and no pain at all, and having an image finding with bulging should not lead to you becoming a pin-cushion. There is probably another reason that makes you hurt, and maybe a second opinion with a good physical exam might help.

Tried Epidural?: Epidural Steroid Injections can be quite helpful for spinal stenosis and DDD. If already tried, maybe stem cell therapy is an option for you, check out Regenexx. Com. Last Resort is surgery but that is an option as well.

I've had facet joint injections that haven't worked I have pains in hips and pins and needles physiotherapy has not worked what do you recommend next?

Back pain: In addition to cortisone injections, physical therapy, chiropractic care, back bracing and neuropathic pain medicine can reduce or eliminate the pain. See a neurosurgeon to evaluate the pain because herniated discs with nerve impingement, tears in the disc, and inflammation of the sacroiliac joints can mimic facet joint pain.

You may need: radiofrequency ablation and even things like platelet rich plasma, prolotherapy or even stem cell therapies. Try to find a physician that does all of these to get the most options for treatment for you.

Back: Back pain maybe caused by the disks, facet joints, muscles, nerves, spinal cord not to mention other organ systems. Facet joint arthritis is a common cause of back pain and often responds well to injections, radiofrequency burning of facet nerves and endoscopic rhizotomy cutting of facet nerves. Please see my avvo health guide on facet disease.

I've had 3 facet joint injections that were ineffective. What is usually the next course of treatment?

I've had 3 facet joint injections that were ineffective. What is usually the next course of treatment?

Facet Injection: There are many causes of back pain. Facet injections are used mainly for back pain syndromes that are felt to be caused by pathology from the facet joint. If such injections are ineffective, then the pain generating component of your back pain requires further investigation to determine further treatment options.

What are common complications of a facet joint injection?

Pain, numbness: Facet joint injections are often done in the lumbar & cervical spine, often under fluoroscopy (live x-ray), bathing this joint with an anesthetic (lidocaine, etc.) and steroid/cortisone. Common side effects include pain (during and for the first 48 hours), numbness (often temporary) and bleeding (usually minimal). Rare & serious side effects include infection, nerve injury and spinal fluid leak.

Hey docs, should verced i.V. Always be given for pain during facet joint injection?

Depends: Versed can help with anxiety during your procedure but not everyone needs this. So make sure you ask what the sedation or anesthesia will do to you during the procedure. Many times they use other medications as well. I would discuss this with your doctor to have a better understanding of what you might go through.

Hard to Say: Without evaluating you fully what to do. Recommend if you are not getting relief, seek another opinion. See a Pain/Spine specialist that is fellowship trained and has understanding of the musculoskeletal system like a physiatrist.
