Tarsal tunnel : Description sounds somewhat like tarsal tunnel syndrome which is an entrapped nerve in the ankle but could also be referred lumbar radiculopathy (pinched nerve in back) or just really bad tendinitis compressing the nerves of the lower leg. A few things: It could be due to plantar fasciitis, an injury, overuse, worn out shoes, tarsal tunnel syndrome (think carpal tunnel but at the ankle level instead of wrist), arthritis, peripheral neuropathy due to radiculopathy (spinal nerve issues) or medical reasons (such as diabetes, thyroid or circulatory issues). Be seen: There are a lot of structures in that area that can cause pain including the intervertebral discs, the lumbar facet joints, and the SI joints. Sick Achilles.: Your comments sound like the findings of a previous x-ray exam. I'm not sure what is meant by "bump on the opposite side of the ankle". If it is in the Achilles tendon, then extreme pain, could make sense. It sounds as though there is something amiss with your Achilles tendon. ? Plantar Fasciaitis: You may well be describing a condition called plantar fasciaitis. This is usually worse the first thing in the morning with the first steps. Heel pain and pain in the arch can be signs of this. Stretching the foot out is the answer.
