Probably yes: Officially, that test is conclusive at 28 days. It's probably conclusive at 25 days, but to be absolutely certain, have another test in a week or so. ...Read more
How accurate is p24 ag/ab combo test 8 months after possible exposure? I read it is only valid/useful between 4 and 7 weeks after exposure.
HIV Testing: It is very likely to be very accurate that far after an exposure. If you are negative that is the right result. You do not need any further testing then. ...Read more
My bro wants to know if duo test (p24 and elisa) is accurate after 4 weeks of exposure? Plz help him he is so worried. Thank u
Two better than one?: The duo test looks for the p24 antigen or protein made by the HIV virus. The elisa tests for the body's immune response to the infection (antihiv antibodies). Elisa is now very sensitive & specific (>99%/>99%) but can take 3-6 weeks to become (+). The p24 antigen may be positive faster (in studies 1-2 days on average being (+) @28d) & may be more sensitive in diagnosing very early infection. ...Read more
I tested p24 after 14 days of the exposure and it was negative/nonreactive. Should I do another test or it's confirmed HIV negative?
Tested Way too Soon: That is not in any way a valid time frame for testing. I do not know who your physician is or why you were given a test that is completely invalid because it was done too soon. ...Read more
They say hiv 4th gen duo is between 14-28 days, Will it make a difference if I go at 12 days to do test? Can it still detect p24 or not?
Black White or Gray: Life is not black and white, but comes in shades of gray... many shades, maybe 14-28 shades of gray. One who worries about these technical details will get the most relief by taking the test in the middle of the recommended range, meaning on the 21st day, halfway between 14 and 28. Follow the primary care doctor's recommendations, and live life safely and wisely. ...Read more
55th day CMIA duo result non reactive (0.08).When do the P24 antigens disappear. How reliable is result @ 55 days PE? Further testing required?
100% conclusive: The test is 100% conclusive any time 4 weeks or more after exposure, and remains positive for life after that. It is the HIV antibody clears p24 antigen from the blood. If p24 is absent in an infected person, the antibody part of the test always is positive. Your 55 day result is conclusive. Do not have any more tests. ...Read more

Hiv p24 ag ab combo test at 28 days, 42 days and 62 days, some are negative. Quanto to be safe after 62 days?
Not a good test: P24 antigen testing is not the best way to rule out infection. The most sensitive test is a qualitative viral dna test, not usually performed. At 62 days HIV elisa may well be positive, if you were infected. Because sometimes antibodies are not formed until 90 days, you can complement by HIV RNA test that can detect down to 20 copies per ml of blood. ...Read more
70 days i.e. 10weeks AbAg p24 combo CMIA test result non reactive (0.08). Is the result conclusive? Further testing required?
I had all the symptoms of HIV but my tests result was negative? I did 4 teste p24 combo at 21, 47, 82, 83 days after exposure
I have not taken one yet, but how often does a p24 antigen test have a false positive result? And how accurate are they after 2 weeks?
About 2-8 weeks after exposure, antibodies to HIV are produced in response to the infection and remain detectable in the blood thereafter, making the HIV antibody test useful for detecting infections
After two weeks, the accuracy is questionable
The p24 antigen test is one of the earlier tests developed to detect HIV infection. Because levels of p24 antigen fall as antibody develops and do not ...Read more
Hi Dr Is this analysis Peremptory after 6 weeks or should I return it? Name of analysis : HIV p24 Ag And Abs (HIV COMBO) The result was negative

Can p24 components of HIV 4th generation test cross react with HIV2 or it is specifically for HIV1?
What test should one make after two weeks of sexual relation to know if he is infected by aids? Is it p24?
Question unclear: If you are referring to your male sexual partner he should go to the health department and have HIV antibody testing performed. You can measure p14 antigen or better, if you don't mind the cost, have an hiv/rna pcr done. Good luck. You should not be having unprotected sex with anyone until they have been tested and only if they are in a monogamous relationship with you. ...Read more
Hello! Is 76 days (11 weeks) HIV 1&2 CMIA combo p24 nonreactive (0.07) test conclusive? Retest after a week required? Thanks!
Conclusive at 4+ wk: That test is conclusive any time 4 weeks or more after exposure. At 11 weeks, there is no need for additional testing. Former advice about testing at 3 months was for antibody-only tests, not combo tests; and even that is outmoded for the newer (third generation) antibody tests, which generally are conclusive after 6-8 weeks. ...Read more
Is 28 day result conclusive timing for a HIV neg test - 4th gen duo (HIV 1 & 2 incl P24)? On web and Dr's on health tap, conflicting responses.
Hello doctors, please tell me hiv1/2antibody, p24 antigen negative test at 3 weeks after post exposure prophylysis. How accurate and reliable it is?
Not widely used: The level of p24 antigen and the amount of virus (viral load) increase significantly soon after initial infection. It is during this time frame, before HIV antibody is produced, when the p24 test and the HIV antigen/antibody combination test are useful in helping to diagnose infection. About 2-8 weeks after exposure, antibodies to HIV are produced in response to the infection and remain detectable. ...Read more
Hiv 1&2 ab/ag p24 test negative at 13 weeks, conclusive result or I need to retest at 6 months mark?
To what extent is duo test (p24 and elisa) for hlv infection accurate and reliable after four weeks of sexual relation?
Is there any form of HIV testing that is somewhat accurate at 2 weeks? I know the antibody test is not. What about p24 or RNA test?
HIV testing: The best and accurate way is to check a HIV RNA viral load. If the viral load is up you have an active infection. You need to then be followed closely by a infectious disease specialist, obtain genome testing, and test the virus for resistant patterns so that HAART therapy can be tailored accordingly. ...Read more
Indeterminate western blot after three years of exposure with p24 and again the same results after one month. Is it still window period?
See an HIV expert: This is a complex situation, can't sort it out on this forum with the info you provide. Most people with indeterminate HIV WB results do not have HIV. But indeterminate due to p24 can be found during serconversion, as you seem to know. WB is not usually done any more -- other confirmatory methods are used. If not in the care of an infectious diseases or HIV/AIDS expert, ask for referral ASAP. ...Read more
Is 28 day result conclusive timing for a HIV neg test - 4th gen duo (HIV 1 & 2 inc P24)? On web and this forum, conflicting communications.
Definitive. A positive result would be definitive but a negative one, this soon after exposure does not rule out infection. Repeat the test a 12 weeks and 6 months after exposure.

I had negative 4th generation (ELISA + p24 a ntigen) at 30 days after high risk, no symptoms, is this conclusive? Do I need retest at 3 month?
Hi Dr, how accurate is the antibody part of a 4th generation test at detecting hiv-2 at 38 days post exposure since p24 is not detectable on hiv-2.
Very sensitive: High probability of negativity.Get a more detailed answer ›
