What is the oxygen poor blood?

What is the oxygen poor blood?

Few basic reasons: Haemoglobin- a protein molecule, carries o2 in the blood vs called arteries and after o2 is used by tissues, the deoxyg. Hb is carried by vessels called veins -> heart -> lungs to get new o2 molec. Added. When hb is low in quantity or abnl.In str-> o2 is low in blood. Iron, folate, (folic acid) B12 deficiency- anemia o2 defective basic str.As in thalssemia, sicklecell dz. 2.Heart defects->mixing a &venous bloo. ...Read more

Oxygen (Definition)

Oxygen is a gas that the cells in your body need to work properly. The air we breathe normally has 21% oxygen. A maximum of 100% oxygen can be given. Babies with heart or lung problems may need ...Read more

I'm hospitalized for kidney infection, and on oxygen as blood saturation is around 80, normally 97-99. Could my infection or complications cause this?

I'm hospitalized for kidney infection, and on oxygen as blood saturation is around 80, normally 97-99. Could my infection or complications cause this?

Additional Concern: Are you sure about the diagnosis of a kidney infection. Pulmonary renal syndromes; wegener's gn, goodpastures, cause pulmonary hemorrhage (bleeding) and present with lung disease and kidney failure. Also, 10-20 % of patients with kidney infections seed the blood stream with bacteria and you can develop infections outside of the kidney. Finally, ards, a lung disease can develop in very ill pts. ...Read more

I'll be having a sleep study done soon as I think the low oxygen in blood is causing my Afib and maybe the root cause all among , is it possible Why?

I'll be having a sleep study done soon as I think the low oxygen in blood is causing my Afib and maybe the root cause all among , is it possible Why?

Low oxygen during: REM sleep cycles causes irritability of your cardiac circulation and intrinsic pacemakers, which are oxygen-hungry. As a result, hypoxia of your intrinsic pacemaker (sinus node) may develop into atrial fibrillation.
Hope the sleep test and its treatment improve your condition. ...Read more

Nails are turning blue which i hear is due to low oxygen in blood cells. Can lack of physical activity & outside air cause this?

Probably not: Blue nails can be from poor perfusion due to vascular disease, low oxygen (hypoxia), or from toxins such as methemoglobenemia. Deconditioning (lack of activity) may be a symptom of low oxygen and not a cause. Outside versus inside air have the same oxygen content. I would advise you see an md to do a workup for anemia, oxygen levels, and vascular disease. ...Read more

During pregnancy, is it true that I have to sleep on my left side or the baby will have lack of oxygen and blood flow?

During pregnancy, is it true that I have to sleep on my left side or the baby will have lack of oxygen and blood flow?

Left is best: Sleeping in your left side provides your baby with the best blood flow. Sleeping on the right can put pressure in your liver and decrease blood flow. Sleeping on your back causes too much pressure many organs. Try to sleep on your left side. ...Read more

Is low blood pressure bad due to lack of oxygen and blood?

Depends on symptoms: If, with a low blood pressure, someone has symptoms of dizziness, lightheadedness, kidney failure, etc, then it is bad.

But, there are many people who feel and look completely fine with a "low" blood pressure number. So, the number doesn't necessarily mean it is bad: it really depends on the symptoms. ...Read more

My mom is being hospitalized for pneumonia and a possible blood clot or COPD i'm very worried could it be deadly her oxygen and blood pressure is low?

Unanswerable: There are just too many unknowns here. I am very sorry to hear of your mother's troubles, but it sounds like she is in the right place and getting the right attention. In these scary scenarios this kind of answer must come from the medical team working with her in person. ...Read more

What does it mean if your oxygen in your blood is low?

What does it mean if your oxygen in your blood is low?

Low blood oxygen: The normal blood oxygen saturation level is 92% to 100%. Below 92% it is low saturation. The more it goes below 90% and 80% the problems with kidney, heart and brain start ending into cardiopulmonary failure. ...Read more

What is normal levels of oxygen in the blood? What is considered low and what is considered dangerous? Is levels in the 80s ok?

What is normal levels of oxygen in the blood? What is considered low and what is considered dangerous? Is levels in the 80s ok?

It is low: If you are asking about oxygen saturation the level should be above 90%. Normally it it is 97 - 99%. If the levels are in the low 80s - the person should be on oxygen. The oxygen saturation is obtained via external device placed on the finger or earlobe. If you obtain arterial blood and measure oxygen level - po2 the level in 80 is ok. ...Read more

Can you please explain how and why with low iron sometimes not have a normal amount of oxygen in their blood?

See explanation: Red blood cell have hemoglobin. Hemoglobin carries oxygen to the tissues. If your iron is low, you may be anemic. Therefore the number of red cells is decreased and not as much oxygen is transported to the tissues. ...Read more

Can oxygen in the blood stream kill you?

Why do you ask?: There's a quack procedure by which oxygen and/or ozone are pumped into various body orifices; this has caused death by gas embolization. Beyond this, the blood normally carries oxygen. Perhaps you can clarify your question; please forgive me if I have misunderstood. ...Read more

Do platelets carry oxygen in the blood?

Do platelets carry oxygen in the blood?

No: The Tred blood cells. What makes these un nucleated cells unique is that they contain the hemoglobin molecule which can transport oxygen and release it in the organs needing O2 to survive. When the deoxygenated blood reaches the lungs, O2 is picked up again by the hemoglobin molecule. The 3 molecules necessary for creating life were carbon, O2 and Fe which comprises hemoglobin. ...Read more

Whats the average percent of oxygen in the blood ? I'm a heavy smoker and when i got checked at triage i had 99percent it said . But scarring in lungs

Quit smoking...: A normal oxygen saturation that is measured the way you are talking about is typically greater than 95% in your age range (down to as low as 90% in someone with chronic lung problems). The effects of smoking don't always show up on an oxygen saturation percentage until a chronic lung condition has set in, so don't let that lead you to believe everything is normal. I would advise quitting. ...Read more

How does hyperpnea affect the amount of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the blood?

Low CO2, alkalemia: Deep or rapid breathing removes more gaseous co2 leading to less co2 in the blood and associated alkalemia - it has a minimal effect on oxygenation except in disease states. ...Read more

Is it true that a build-up of fluid in the lungs will result in a reduced amount of oxygen in the blood returning to the heart?

Is it true that a build-up of fluid in the lungs will result in a reduced amount of oxygen in the blood returning to the heart?

If Bad Enough: The lungs have remarkable capacity to overcome problems with what we'd call "gas exchange", but if enough of the lung tissue is taken out of the picture (eg by being covered in fluid) then yes, the amount of oxygen brought back to the heart will definitely fall. ...Read more

How do I get more oxygen to my blood, body, heart, and brain?

Exercise!: Regular aerobic exercise (running, walking, treadmill, bike etc) will supply lots of extra blood and oxygen to all the organs of the body. And eventually cause new blood vessels to grow. Aim to do exercise daily, at a pace sufficient to make you sweat and get a little short of breath. ...Read more

Can you have idiopathic pulmonary hypertension with normal blood oxygen levels? Does the level of oxygen in your blood correlate to the degree of PH?

Yes, no: The problem in primary pulmonary hypertension is getting blood through the lungs, not oxygenating it. This causes all kinds of misunderstanding. Since pO2 is easy to measure and pulmonary vascular resistance / blood pressure isn't, it's easy to forget how sick these folks are. ...Read more
