How effective is tretnoin 0.025% and topical clindamycin 1% for fighting acne and pimples ( velac), will it manage acne better than tretinoin alone?
Effective: Combo better than solo.Get a more detailed answer ›
Minocin-tetracycline: I have prescribed low doses of doxycline (similar med) for adult acne (particularly rosacea) and have had good results. It is often a long term treatment which can lead to antibiotic resistance and GI problems and yeast infections in women. I always recommend taking probiotics when taking antibiotics. Also have regular dental check ups as it can cause teeth staining. ...Read more
For severe cases: Accutane is a very strong but very effective drug for acne. It has potential serious side effects and requires close monitoring. Use forever: I love tretinoin and think that every non-pregnant person should be using this (until it expires, of course). A small pea sized amount to your entire face at night is recommended. Use the right sunscreen daily and give it 6-9 months for best results. ...Read more

What is the most effective over-the-counter treatment plan for controlling acne while healing minor acne scars & hyperpigmentation?
For my acne, I've tried clindamycin 1% gel and minocycline capsules. What topical prescription products are more effective than the clindamycin?
Don't use alone: An antibiotic must never be the sole therapy for acne. Always use topical benzoyl peroxide and/or topical retinoic acid when you are taking an antibiotic for acne. If you have acne on your trunk, you'll probably need both the minocycline capsules and one or the other topical agents I have listed. Acne is unrealted to lifestyle or anything else and you'll need to manage until it remits on its own. ...Read more
Is oral clindamycin helpful for acne vulgaris? Already failed tx w/ doxy, minocycline, & azithromycin.
Don't do it: Taking oral Clindamycin after 3 other good antibiotics failed is asking for another failure and an episode of c. Difficile colitis or worse. I'm going to assume that topical Clindamycin plus benzoyl peroxide plus an adequate dose of an oral tetracycline was a failure. Your next option is a trial or spironolactone with other rx or a dermatology consult for Isotretinoin -- if the latter, be brave! ...Read more
