It's been almost two years now that I have anal fissure. Shall I consider an operation or do I keep applying ointments daily?

Yes, but unnecessary: Snap fissures heal well without specific intervention usually. Those that do not require surgery. Unless a specialist has instructed that you use betadine, I would avoid it as it can interfere with growth of new healthy cells as well as killing bacteria. Sitz baths a few times a day and a super gentle soap is all you need, possibly plus a soothing medicine for pain. ...Read more

Colorec doc found fissure. Gave nitro ointment. Viola. Problem diagnosed. Recommended colonoscopy. Why? I'm 42. No fam history. Seems premature?
Why colonoscopy?: Fissure may have been only cause of bleeding, but doc needs to make certain that was the only cause. Diverticula, Crohn's ds, polyps, cancer call all cause rectal bleeding. Colon cancer is not something to wait and see; once it's there, it's very hard to treat. Prevention is much better than needing treatment. SO, for completeness' sake he's recommending colonoscopy. ...Read more

Anal fissure?: Are you referring to an anal fissure? If so then simply apply the ointment to the anal fissure as directed. There really is not much one could do wrong with the application. The systemic absorption is minimal so there should be almost no risk of side effects other than fixing the fissure. ...Read more
Have had an itchy anus for long now. My GP examined it and prescribed schiriproct ointment for a fissure, which helps temporarily when applied, but not solving it. Also sometimes I may get slight leakage like the sphincter isn’t closing right?
Pruritis ani: An itchy anus is a vexing problem. Certainly fecal leakage and local irritation can play a large role so try making sure the area is dry and clean and keeping tissue/toilet paper up the anus may help a bit here. Also avoid caffeine which can also contribute to anal itching. Importantly you may need to rule out a parasite and have stool sent to exclude this Hemmorhoids can also cause anal itching. ...Read more
Having anal fissure and hemorroids. Extreme pain and burning. Using ointments but no relief. What can help relieve the pain. Is there a solution?
Diagnosed with anal fissure, is there any pain relief ointments that can be used? Currently using glycerine suppositories.
Anal fissures no fun: Anal fissures are like paper-cuts. They can bleed, hurt, & recur, particularly with defecation & other activities that increases pelvic pressure. Disorders of anal-rectal function, straining at hard stool, prolonged sitting, heavy lifting, long distance walks/runs should be avoided. If stool softeners, fiber & behavior changes don't cure, can use topical nitrate or diltiazem with anesthetic agent. ...Read more
I have an anal fissure and was prescribed a nifedipine ointment. Will using more often/more than a pea-sized drop do me harm?
No: The nifepinine works by relaxing the rectal muscles. There is a limited rate that it can diffuse through the rectal lining into the muscles. Putting more cream on may not increase how well it works but shouldn't harm you. Realize that it is not a pain reliever or an anti-infamitory so relief will take time. Don't over do it because that just irritate things. Good health. ...Read more

I'm 21wks pregnant and have anal fissure because of hardened stool. What can be used to cure the fissure and is calmoseptine ointment safe for pregnant?
Stool softener: The best treatment for an anal fissure is to avoid constipation with a simple stool softener. Natural foods such as prunes or raisins are likely your best bet while you're pregnant, in addition to drinking lots of water and walking more. I would ask your OB about calmoseptine. ...Read more
I recently developed an anal fissure during childbirth. I just started the topical ointment and bought miralax but got told dulcolax would work better?
You decide: Your effort will be to keep your stools soft enough to pass without reopening the fissure. The ointment may help with localized pain. I like the Miralax because it is more reliable as a stool wetting agent at keeping them soft. You can use it daily for weeks/months as needed once you figure out how much you need & how often to take it.Dulcolax can help you go but I find it less consumer friendly. ...Read more
