Yes: There is controversy about what is the optimal dose of vitamin d. Go to the vitamin d council website and see studies to show that higher doses of vitamin d may help prevent cancer, infections, dementia and many other diseases. ...Read more
I know Vitamin E is one of the vitamins dangerous in high quantities. I currently take some supplements (food based vitamin + probiotic) with 42 IU total (140% RDA); is this a safe level?
Can save lives: High doses of vit. C given intravenously is remarkably safe, is highly effective in treating acute & chronic viral infections & is a natural form of chemotherapy. Relatively high oral doses help prevent heart disease, cancer & slow the aging process. I take a multivitamin daily + D3 suppl for a total of 1800iu. But is it ok to take extra supplementation of vitamin E and vitamin c? What about zinc?
Yes - depends a bit: Most adults need 5-8000 iu of d3/day to achieve optimal levels of 50-80. Most multivits have 30-60 iu of e but there are benefits to taking 400-800 iu of e a day, but only as natural e with mixed tocopherols- Alpha tocopherol alone may be hazardous.I advise people take 1-2, 000 mg of c 2x/day. Too much zinc can be toxic but doses up to 40 mg/day are safe-but balance with copper in a 10-15:1 ratio. ...Read more
Would taking 1800 mcg of vitamin d +400 mcg of calcium in be too much to take? Vitamin d low with 1400 mcg supplemented daily. I am 47yr old female.
Ask your doctor: If you have low vitamin D three levels, you should probably start supplementing. However because it is a fat-soluble vitamin, it can accumulate and build up reserves rather quickly, so you want to follow your doctor's advice on how quickly or fast s/he wants to do this. Also your ratio of calcium is off. So best to discuss this with your doctor to get you back on track. ...Read more
Is it essential to take a multi vitamin? I'm currently taking vit d3, magesium & executive b stress formula
Absolutelynot: The majority of studies show no. Enefits from taking multivitamins unless you are deficient! in which case you should first turn to food sources to address the deficiency. Don't buy into the hype about the value of these pills. There is little to no value, and potential harm in taking them. You definitely don't need them at your age and you are probably duplicating between the products you alread. ...Read more
