Depends: Your cyst can be followed if it's a simple cyst without any features that are worrisome for malignancy. If there are multiple septations, thickened membranes, nodules, irregular sides, etc; you should have a surgical procedure to rule out pre-malignant or malignant tissue. Also, this size can occasionally torse (twist) & can cause severe pain. Talk to your doc re: your cysts characteristics. ...Read more
How long is it normal to wait for surgery to remove an ovarian cyst with septations the size is 10 cm?
Depends: Their is not a specific amount of time. This usually would not need to be performed immediately. If you have pain, an elevated CA-125, a family history of ovarian cancer or some other concerning feature then that would increase the urgency. Regardless, I would not wait to long. Several weeks would not be uncommon depending on the surgeon's and hospital's schedule. Hope this helps. ...Read more

Ovarian cyst size: Depends on the type of cyst. Ovarian cysts can range from under 0.5 inches (1.27 cm) to more than 12 inches (30.48 cm). Ovarian cysts are particularly common during childbearing years. Many resolve spontaneously without treatment. The potential risks and benefits of any treatment should be carefully considered. No treatment is necessary unless symptoms outweigh potential risk of treatment. ...Read more
Hi. I have an ovarian cyst, it has shrunk in size but am getting pain. I was wondering if its rupturing. If so what are the signs? Thanks
Ovarian cyst: Yes it's still possible to have pain from a cyst that's shrinking and leaking fluid. The fluid from the cyst can irritate the lining tissue in the pelvis causing such pain. Using a heating pad, taking ibuprofen and resting usually helps. Pain doesn't usually last more than a few days. But be sure your not pregnant. ...Read more
I'm 21 years old and unmarried. I have less than 5 ovarian cysts of 5-8 mm size. Are these dangerous? What should I have to do? Please help.
50 yrs; uniloculated rt ovarian cyst with no solid components of 10x8cm persisting for a year with no increase/decrease in size. Can it be observed?
Observation: A simple cyst even above 8 cm has a very low chance of being a cancer. Despite that fact, removal would be recommended because of the chance of it causing pain or torsion. If you do not want it out, that is your decision. You physical health must also be taken into account. ...Read more

Ovarian cyst: It will probably go away on its own. Have another ultrasound in 3 months. Go to an emergency room if you get worsening pelvic pain as it could mean the cyst has burst or your ovary has twisted. Birth control pills help to prevent cysts but you don't have to take them if you don't want to. For sure follow up in 3 months with your physician. ...Read more

EXTREMELY unlikely: I would almost say 100% no. That size of a cyst is too large to resolve itself, and should be removed surgically, due to the risks of it being a tumor (need to rule out malignancy) and due to the risk of torsion (where the ovary twists around it's artery and vein, cuts off the blood supply to it and causes severe pain). Sorry, but you really need to have surgery to remove it. ...Read more
Wait: Cysts come and go with your cycle. While 4.7 cm is a little larger than usual it is not big enough to be of concern. As long as it is a simple cyst and unless it is somehow symptomatic, you do not need to do anything. If you are worried, recheck it after a couple of cycles. ...Read more

I have a 3cm septated ovarian cyst. At what point/size should it be surgically removed. I have a hx of Dermoid Teratoma/partial oophrectomy.
It appears that you already follow with GYN, so they should be able to tell you when the cyst should be removed. Many times, the cyst is monitored every 6 months to a year for interval increase in size. If the size remains stable over time, there is no need for intervention. Good luck. ...Read more
