A cyst is a structure or mass that consists of a cellular lined sac. It is typically filled with fluid but may be filled with solid material. It can be congenital, traumatic, or acquired. I had a hysterectomy 4 months ago. All of my ovarian cyst symptoms are back. Is it okay to go back on my birth control (ortho try-cyclene low)?
Yes: Unfortunately, removal of the uterus (hysterectomy) does not treat ovarian cysts. I would recommend seeing your ob/gyn for a sono to evaluate the ovaries before restarting your pills, however. Birth control has benefits but also risks, so you would want to make sure you are treating the right thing. ...Read more
My gyn put me on birth control for a yr due to irregular period caz of ovarian cyst. My period came the month after I came off after that have not see it want a baby bad what should I do. Help?
Pills didn't do it: It would have been a good idea to do tests to find out why your periods were irregular before going on the pill. The pill may treat whatever this condition, but not cure it. Then when you stop the pill, what was causing the period to be irregular before you started on the pill is still present. Don't blame the pill, but you should see your doctor to find the cause. ...Read more
Why do my ovarian cysts hurt so much before my period? Ovulation almost killed me this time too. Had one kid. Felt sick ever since bad birth of my baby.
Usually nothing: Birth has little to do with other problems of the uterus or ovary. Sometimes fibroids can get in the way of birth or can cause pain after. Naturally there are many variables and a particular case needs to be handled by a doctor. For more info see webmd. ...Read more
It depends: There are ovarian cysts that will go away over time, and others that are more serious and need surgery. Birth control pills prevent many types of cysts, and thus can be helpful in preventing cysts. They don't make cysts go away away faster, but they prevent some types of cysts. See your dr about what kind of cyst you have. ...Read more
Yes: Ovarian cysts are generated by ovulation monthly, and wax/wane with your estrogen levels. Birth control pills, depending on composition, can stimulate ovarian cysts, and can make things worse. Best idea is to talk this over with your OB if your BCP's are making things worse, can change the type and possibly lessen any symptoms ...Read more

I'm taking birth control for an ovarian cyst and I'm going back in 4 months to check and see if it's gone. Will it make it go away?
Ovarian Cyst: Ovarian cysts are actually quite common in premenopausal women. (The function of the ovary by nature is to produce cysts each month). BCPs do not make the cysts go away. They prevent ovulation, which allows the ovaries to "rest" while the cyst resolves on its own, and no further ones develop. Should be gone by this time. Good luck! ...Read more

Different type cysts: Not all ovarian cysts arise from ovulatory follicles that failed to rupture and release the egg. Some cysts spontaneously develop from other cells in the ovary. Examples include "dermoid" cysts which can contain hair, skin secretions and other mature adult tissues. Other types are cystadenomas (both serous and mucinous), and cystadenofibromas. ...Read more

Intense Ovarian cyst cramps at night on two birth controls already (iud and lo estrin) is this normal?
Pelvic pain: While you may hurt in the area where ovaries lie, it is extremely rare to have cramps or pain from ovaries unless you have a very large cyst or are ovulating which your birth control pill would prevent. I would recommend being evaluated for another source of pain such as uterine cramping, intestinal cramps, musculoskeletal pain. Also, make sure you are drinking 2liters of water per day ...Read more

See medical expert: If there is a history of ovarian cysts and/or abnormal hormone effect, a woman definitely needs to be seen by an expert in gynecology or rei. It is important to receive their treatment recommendations. At some point she might need to be evaluated further and treated differently. Rarely cancer can occur if the lining of the uterus is not shed properly, and natural ways have unpredictable results. ...Read more
