Yes: Unfortunately, removal of the uterus (hysterectomy) does not treat ovarian cysts. I would recommend seeing your ob/gyn for a sono to evaluate the ovaries before restarting your pills, however. Pills didn't do it: It would have been a good idea to do tests to find out why your periods were irregular before going on the pill. The pill may treat whatever this condition, but not cure it. Then when you stop the pill, what was causing the period to be irregular before you started on the pill is still present. It depends: There are ovarian cysts that will go away over time, and others that are more serious and need surgery. Birth control pills prevent many types of cysts, and thus can be helpful in preventing cysts. They don't make cysts go away away faster, but they prevent some types of cysts.
