Can a 5 CM ovarian cyst resolve itself?

Can a 5 CM ovarian cyst resolve itself?

Probably: If the cyst is simple and 5cm in size, then yes - good chance it may go away on it's own. Larger than 7cm, and it is much much less likely that it can resolve on it's own. A follow-up sonogram in 6 weeks can tell if it is going away. ...Read more

Can an ovarian cyst of this size (10 cm), eventually resolve itself?

Can an ovarian cyst of this size (10 cm), eventually resolve itself?

EXTREMELY unlikely: I would almost say 100% no. That size of a cyst is too large to resolve itself, and should be removed surgically, due to the risks of it being a tumor (need to rule out malignancy) and due to the risk of torsion (where the ovary twists around it's artery and vein, cuts off the blood supply to it and causes severe pain). Sorry, but you really need to have surgery to remove it. ...Read more

I had an ovarian cyst about a year ago that resolved on its own. Do these cysts ever grow back?

Cysts will resolve: Small cysts on the ovary are very common even in young women. The overwhelming majority will resolve on their own without surgery. Although they may hurt the best treatment is to take Ibuprofen for the pain and to wait to see if it goes away. They don't grow back but you could certainly form a new one. ...Read more

If sciatica pain was caused by free fluid from ovarian cyst, should surgery have relieved pain immediately? Or might it take a few days to resolve?

If sciatica pain was caused by free fluid from ovarian cyst, should surgery have relieved pain immediately? Or might it take a few days to resolve?

Hmm...: Well sciatica generally is not caused by anything in the abdomen, so highly unlikely the fluid from ovarian cyst caused your sciatica. I would have your doctor get an MRI of your spine if your sciatica doesn't resolve in a week or two as the most likely culprit will be a herniated disc. ...Read more
