I had a partial hysterectomy in 2004. Is it possible to have ovarian cysts twelve years later? In alot of pain and don't know what to do
I've had ovarian cysts and painful bursts almost every month for years. even more often since my partial hysterectomy February 2013. Help.
OCPs or surgery: You could take OCPs to suppress ovulation, as that's when these cysts usually start. The other option would be to have one or both ovaries removed, which can be done laparoscopically. However, if both ovaries are removed, you will need to take hormone replacement, especially at your age. ...Read more
I recently had a partial hysterectomy about 3 months ago and discovered last month that I have an ovarian cyst, does it need to be removed?
No: Not unless it is causing bad symptoms or has features worrisome for cancer. Cancer is unlikely since your surgeon just looked at the ovary 3 mo ago. The cyst should be followed with periodic ultrasounds to make sure it resolves and does not develop worrisome features. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I had a hysterectomy in 2009 and I have an ovarian cyst that I have had for awhile now and it hasnt burst yet. Been over a year and its painful.

I have been experiencing shooting vaginal pains for three days. I'm 64, radical hysterectomy in 1983, one ovary saved. Could this be an ovarian cyst?
Broad differential.: The differential diagnosis is broad. The cause of your pain could indeed be ovarian in etiology. However, it is not uncommon for other disease processes (such as kidney stones) to refer to groin area as well. More history, exam, and possible imaging studies may be needed to give you a good answer. Hope this helps! ...Read more

Depends: At 39 years old, you probably have functioning ovaries. If they are removed you are (without hormonal replacement) plunged into menopause. A question would be, are you in pain, or are the ovaries just known to have asyptomatic cysts on them? Most physicians would remove symptomatic ovarian cysts if other means to shrink them didm't work. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
