Not really: Excess bleeding in volume or timing is more often associated with a uterine problem like fibroids or polyps. Sometimes an ovarian cyst can throw off a cycle or delay ovulation. But it doesn't usually cause your periods to just be heavier in general.

Ovarian cysts: Functional cysts are functional, meaning they grow and regress. Sometimes they're there, sometimes they're not but that just means you have a healthy ovary that grows eggs. You should still get periods.
