Pain control/US: Get an ultrasound to make sure there is no ovarian torsion. Finding a balance between pain and daily life is sometimes difficult. Expecting to be pain free is not possible because there is a ruptured cyst. Try acetaminophen and/or NSAID such as advil or aleve (naproxen). Make sure blood counts are okay. Speak with your gynecologist to see if surgery is the appropriate treatment. ...Read more

Cyst (Definition)

I had MRI done on hips finding mildly complex heterogeneous 3.9x3.4x3.8cm ovarian cyst with presence of moderate free fluid within pelvis how serious?

I recently had a MRI on my hips which shows mildly complex heterogeneous ovarian cyst and presence of free fluid within the pelvis How serious is this

Hard to say: It is hard to say since there are many different causes of these findings. The first thing recommended should be a pelvic ultrasound with doppler flow studies. The cyst can be a functional cyst with hemorragh (caused by the function of the ovary-ovulation),an endometrioma, a cystic teratoma or dermoid, or a cancer. The doppler flow will be increased if it is cancer. ...Read more

Cyst rupture or not?: The free fluid could be from a ruptured ovarian cyst, or it could just be physiological free fluid. Did you have severe pelvic pain that seemed to get better with time? If so, a ruptured cyst is more likely. ...Read more

I'm 21. Which medication is more proper for ovarian cysts(5-8mm. No free fluid) in both ovaries- homeopathy or allopathy ?

Medical systems: Homeopathy and allopathy are systems of medicine, not medications in themselves. Allopathy means "other suffering" -- and refers to using treatments that cause effects different from those of the disease being treated. Homeopathy = "similar suffering" -- and uses minute quantities of medicines that would produce in a healthy person, symptoms similar to those of the disease. Please see comment. ...Read more

If sciatica pain was caused by free fluid from ovarian cyst, should surgery have relieved pain immediately? Or might it take a few days to resolve?

If sciatica pain was caused by free fluid from ovarian cyst, should surgery have relieved pain immediately? Or might it take a few days to resolve?

Hmm...: Well sciatica generally is not caused by anything in the abdomen, so highly unlikely the fluid from ovarian cyst caused your sciatica. I would have your doctor get an MRI of your spine if your sciatica doesn't resolve in a week or two as the most likely culprit will be a herniated disc. ...Read more

Cyst: The cyst you describe is small and probably represents a corpus luteoma; a cyst that normally develops after ovulation. As your are 5 days overdue, you should perform a home pregnancy test. Most small cysts will go away on their own, even complex cysts. ...Read more

I have a 5cm ovarian cyst with a trace of free fluid, how can I treat it?

I have a 5cm ovarian cyst with a trace of free fluid, how can I treat it?

Cyst: The cyst may resolve by itself with no particular intervention. I would recommend a follow up ultrasound in 1 - 2 months. Sometimes they will resolve on birth control pills. If the cyst persists, it may need to be removed laparoscopically - an operation with small incisions. ...Read more
