Common finding: The ovarian follicles (egg sites) often form cysts of various sizes in adolescence and adulthood. They can be small and never recognised or larger. They are often found on ultrasound for pain or other symptoms. Correlation with other history and symptoms determines the importance of any such finding. ...Read more
No known cause: While ovarian cysts do occur in teenagers, they are relatively uncommon. Slight increase risk if family history. Diagnosis can be on exam with abdominal mass; sometimes found on ultrasound for abdominal pain problems. If large, cyst may need surgical intervention. Some congenital syndromes with other signs of endocrine disease can occur. ...Read more

Are there medications other than surgery to decrease the size of large benign 13 CM simple ovarian cyst or at least prevent it from getting bigger?
No: There are many reasons a 13 cm cyst needs to be removed by surgery: unknown type, rupture, torsion, ... often the cyst can be removed without removing the ovary. It would be w-a-y outside standard of care (at least in the US) to "observe" this rather than remove. If it hasn't been removed for tissue, how do you really know it's benign? ...Read more
Thyroid disease: Any thyroid abnormality, whether excessive thyroid hormone or less than normal can affect a woman's menstrual cycle, but either does not generally cause ovarian cysts. Your B12 level will not cause an ovarian cyst. Ovarian cysts are spontaneous, and at 56, may require surgery to diagnose the cause. See your physician for advice soon. ...Read more

19 weeks pregnant, my 13 weeks scan shows have simple ovarian cyst - size of 30mm. But my dr didn't say anything about it. Should that be concerned?
No: Most early ovarian cyst found on ultrasound are physiologic cyst. Most likely a corpus luteum cyst. Hormones secreted by the corpus luteum maintains the pregnancy early in pregnancy. This cyst usually resolve. However if the cyst bleeds, ruptures or there is a tortion (twisting) of the pedicle, this may cause pain. If concerned ultrasound my be repeated in 6 weeks. Don't worry, be happy. ...Read more
I was diagnosis w/ ovarian cyst on my r ovary on tues 11/13 and just spiked a fever of 102.7 I plan on making an appt, but who? Fam dr, gyn, or both?
My cycle was late but it started on 6/13 thru 6/17 now its back on 6/28 kind of heavy cramping and get ovarian cyst. Could I be pregnant. Want to conc?
Maybe not, but...: It can be hard to guess whether a woman is pregnant or not. A urine pregnancy test, done correctly, gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period, or after having a "weird" period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon, and thus lead to a repeat test. ...Read more
Severe ovarian cyst pain I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts 13 months ago, in the ER they thought it was appendicitis. I hadn't had any severe pain since my diagnosis until this last month. I had mirana placed 25 months ago. I've been to my gynecologist t
I: I am very concerned about several things here. That is way too much Ibuprofen (advil and Motrin are other words for ibuprofen). Taking 800 mg every 6 hours for a few days is a lot, but taking 800 mg every two hours is very concerning, and can cause side effects with your stomach and your kidneys. You need to be immediately evaluated for this pain and irregular bleeding. It is not normal. Sometimes these symptoms can occur in the first few months after a mirena, (levonorgestrel) but you state you are 25 months out, so these symptoms are very abnormal. Please have a complete gynecological evaluation. You likely need an imaging study such as an ultrasound. There are other pain medications that you can be treated with. Please be seen immediately for your symptoms. ...Read more

Bleeding 13 days: If pregnancy is possible, get a serum HCG test to make certain. If positive, this bleeding can represent a tubal pregnancy, so see your gyn provider for an exam and ultrasound. There is a number of reasons you may be having prolonged bleeding, so if the test is negative, see your gyn provider also for an exam. ...Read more
Ovarian cyst: Probably not. Discuss with your Dr.Get a more detailed answer ›
Likely insignificant: This is relatively small. This is likely a "functional cyst" meaning present as part of the normal functioning of the ovary (like an egg follicle). Ovaries make cysts for a living! A follow up ultrasound in 4-6 weeks to confirm resolution is the best course of action. ...Read more

I'm 22 years old and have left sided ovarian cyst (30 × 21 mm) since about 4 months which is don't removed by medical treatment. What treatment now?
Ovarian cyst: At 22, this is probably just a benign "simple follicular cyst", but if there are ultrasound suggestions of solid components, or blood flow increases by "color doppler" ultrasound exams, your provider may suggest laparoscopy for a tissue sample. See your provider for advice. Laparoscopy is an outpatient procedure, and will provide very accurate information. ...Read more

I have got an ovarian cyst in right side of 45×28 mm. .. it is anechoic and hypoechoic with no colour fill in. Is it dangerous? ? How to get rid of it
It's probably benign: The sonographic findings you describe are very suggestive of a benign ovarian cyst which is very likely to shrink on its own and resolve spontaneously over 2 to 3 months. If it does not, if it enlarges or if it is causing you pain and concerns, you may want to consult a skilled laparoscopic Gyn surgeon to discuss your options. ...Read more
How can the normal limits of the endometrial thickness be determined when I bleed 25 days a month, (5 mm at age 39)w/ history endometriosis&ovarian cysts?
Evaluation: It is not normal to bleed 25 days a month and the endometrial lining is expected to be thin since you are shedding the lining each time that you bleed. Once your obgyn will determine the underlying cause of your bleeding and your cycles will return to be normal then you can evaluate the thickness of the lining. The best time to evaluate the lining is prior to ovulation. ...Read more
