Surgery: If doctor thinks you have a chocolate cyst (endometriosis), then the best thing is surgery. These don't go away on their own and the endometriosis can cause scarring and more problems in the pelvis (and sometimes infertility). I would recommend a laparoscopic cystectomy (removal of cyst only, not ovary). This is minimally invasive and could prevent future problems. ...Read more

Not usual: Ovarian cysts form every month in healthy young women. Normal ovaries may be filled with small cysts (known as functional cysts). Once in a while, a cyst will become large and may cause pain due to pressure on surrounding tissues. Many ovarian cysts resolve on their own in 3-4 weeks, but an enlarged cyst can rupture causing significant pain. Hopefully you will not need surgery again. ...Read more

Hormonal Suppression: Excisional surgery is only a temporary fix for chocolate cysts related to endometriosis. Unless your ovaries are being removed (and you're too young for that), one thing to try would be hormonal suppression; hibernating your ovaries, via use of continuous oral contraceptive pills or an injection called Lupron that shuts down your cycling. This can potentially quiet down any active endometriosis. ...Read more

How many percentage of chances is there in chocolate cyst to shrink within itself only by avoiding food that boost up estrogen in our body ?

No Chances of Shrink: Chocolate cysts are endometriosis cysts on the ovary. There are no drugs or diet changes that will make those go away. Based on the way they form, they can't really decrease in size - only increase over time. Surgery is the only way to make the cyst disappear and even with surgery, there is a 15-20% chance the cyst will re-form. ...Read more
