See MD: A complex mass at any time is concerning-but more so after menopause. It may have been there for years and be totally benign, but most mds will be worried about a complex mass. If it is more than 5 cm or there are other worrisome looking signs on ultrasound, surgery will be necessary. ...Read more

Density matters: Dermoid cysts are made of multiple different tissue types and they're going to be all made up different densities where fat is light and smooth muscle is heavier, which means that depending on the makeup of your dermoid it will vary in weight. 8cm is fairly hefty. Good luck with your surgery. Don't wait; a cyst this large can twist and torse your ovary. ...Read more

Normal: Ovaries contain follicles. One of them becomes the dominant follicle and grows into an egg that is being released (monthly or so). If you take Clomid (clomiphene) or other medications to help you get pregnant (shots; superovulation) more follicles mature at the same time and you have an increased risk for multiple pregnancies. Your lining is thin. Are you trying to get pregnant? It sounds normal. (prenatal!). ...Read more
