I've heard that one of the side effects of thyroid meds is ovarian cancer, as well as breast cancer and on the minor scale, hair loss. Is this true?

I've heard that one of the side effects of thyroid meds is ovarian cancer, as well as breast cancer and on the minor scale, hair loss. Is this true?

No: I assume you mean synthroid/levothyroxin for thyroid replacement therapy. This is just a synthetic thyroid hormone for those who cannot make it in their own thyroid. This does not cause cancer. Typically a low functioning thyroid will cause hair loss, not therapy.

Hair Loss (Definition)

Hair loss, otherwise known as alopecia, can be caused by different reasons, including damage to the hair shaft or follicles or fungal infections. There are two main types of alopecia. Alopecia areata occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair to fall out. Androgenetic (or androgenic) alopecia, on the other hand, is an inherited form of hair loss. With alopecia areata, hair can fall out in patches all over the body. With androgenetic alopecia, hair on the head first thins and then falls out. In men, this is called male pattern hair loss; in women, it is called ...Read more

I got a tube ligation last year and I haven't gotten my period in 2 months 2 weeks and 2 day's and I have ovarian cancer symptoms I'm 30 is it possib?

It is possible: There could be many causes of amenorrhea (no periods) and pelvic pain. It is possible to have premature menopause (menopause at less than 35 years old). When you had your tubal ligation, the ovaries would have been visualized and most likely appeared normal. Your pain may be due to adhesions from the tubal (abnormal scarring).

None at first: Sadly, there is no screening for ovarian cancer and by the time it causes symptoms, it is often advanced. I've had 2 miscarriage s and I'm trying to conceive and I have irregular peroids. I may think I have ovarian cancer. Lump in pubic region.

Don't worry: Many young women have irregular periods due to anovulatory cycles. Early miscarriages are common and are not necessarily an indication that you will have problems carrying a pregnancy to term. Ovarian cancer is very unlikely in a 20 year old, but it you feel a lump in your pubic region, you should have it examined by a healthcare provider so you know what it is and than you will not have to worr

I have pubic bone pain and urinary frequency. Doctor ordered a transvaginal ultrasound that came back clear. Could it be ovarian cancer? (age28, brca)

I have pubic bone pain and urinary frequency. Doctor ordered a transvaginal ultrasound that came back clear. Could it be ovarian cancer? (age28, brca)

Probably not: It is very unlikely to have ovarian cancer at 28yo. A negative ultrasound doesn't necessarily rule it out but is a good indicator that the ovaries are ok at this time. If you are brca positive, then you should have an ultrasound and ca125 test every 6 months which may help a little but even better is to remove ovaries once you have completed your family.

Can an ovarian cyst cause high wbc that I have loss appetite And feeling fuller. Really worried about ovarian cancer no other symptoms?

Can an ovarian cyst cause high wbc that I have loss appetite And feeling fuller. Really worried about ovarian cancer no other symptoms?

Vague symptoms: Ovarian cysts and early ovarian cancer don't generally increase the white count. A Tubo-Ovarian Abcess or Ovarian Torsion can increase the white count but are usually associated with severe pain. Ovarian Cancer is fairly silent initially but then can have vague, non-specific symptoms. See an Gyn yearly and discuss your concerns. Imaging of your ovaries will usually rule-out ovarian cancer.

Why does ovarian cancer cause the symptom of feeling full quickly?

Why does ovarian cancer cause the symptom of feeling full quickly?

Fluid or ascites: Ovarian cancer is notorious for making fluid in the belly by irritating the lining of the organs (its like a cling wrap around the organs-known as peritoneum). As the cancer grows, there is more fluid which presses on the stomach and other organs and gives a feeling of bloating and early satiety.

Can you help? Could symptoms of ovarian cancer come and go and get better sometimes?

Possibly: Most symptoms of ovarian cancer are vague--bloating, early satiety, feeling of fullness. Other symptoms include feeling "gassy" or changes in bladder or bowel symptoms. Occasionally pain may also be present. Symptoms which are new, are felt with increasing frequency or severity should be explored with your physician.
