Does focal nodular hyperplasia happen in a 6 month period?Prev MRI shows nothing on the liver, recent MRI shows 3 lesions on the liver.Past kidney ca

Actually it can: Fnh is actually a curious event that begins with something we don't understand in the central blood vessel of the lesion, no matter how big or small. I'd not be surprised. If the radiologist is confident, then i'd urge you to go about your life and not worry about kidney cancer having recurred here. ...Read more

Cancer (Definition)

Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more

1.8mm dilation on tail of pancreas with surrounding isoechoic changes, biopsy was taken, waiting on results. Chances this is cancer?

1.8mm dilation on tail of pancreas with surrounding isoechoic changes, biopsy was taken, waiting on results. Chances this is cancer?

I feel your pain: I know waiting is the hardest thing, but you need more info. U/S is rarely the only test for the panc. (although iso echoic is good). We use contrast CT and esp. contrast MRI to help. Of course tissue is the issue. Absent a strong family history of panc. Ca, the odds are almost overwhelmingly in your favor at 40 yo. I assume the 2 mm is the pancreatic duct, which can have normal variants. ...Read more

Does cancer how up on exrays does cancer show up on exrays exrays taken ofhips they said it was burstisus I am a cancer survivor since 2007 clear test results clear lympnodes clear bone scan clear margins in stsge 1 breast cancer

Does cancer how up on exrays does cancer show up on exrays exrays taken ofhips they said it was burstisus I am a cancer survivor since 2007 clear test results clear lympnodes clear bone scan clear margins in stsge 1 breast cancer

Possibly: If the xray examination of the hip shows bone destruction or increased bone formation. On xray there has to be at least 40% destruction of bone for it to be visible. A normal bone scan is much more sensitive for detecting involvement of bone by tumor. If your bone scan is normal, the presence of tumor is unlikely. It is likely that your pain is from benign process such as bursitis or arthritis. ...Read more

Would a transvaginal scan show cysts in the ovaries and/or signs of cancer? How long do results take?

Would a transvaginal scan show cysts in the ovaries and/or signs of cancer? How long do results take?

Yes: Yes, it will show cysts and or any findings suspicious for ovarian cancer. It will also evaluate the uterus. It only takes a few minutes for the radiologist to read, but the images may not be interpreted right away and the report may be given only to the referring doctor...But if you tell them your concern you might get lucky with a quick read/report. ...Read more

A recent CT scan with contrast revealed two cysts on pancreas. What does this mean? Previous colon cancer and has esld. Also 6mm mass on liver.

A recent CT scan with contrast revealed two cysts on pancreas. What does this mean? Previous colon cancer and has esld. Also 6mm mass on liver.

Needs attention: Needs work up. Most of the pancreatic tumors are solid but cysadenoma , cystadeno carcinoma will present as cystic lesions need biopsy of these lesions to make sure they are not malignant also liver lesion. If pancreatic lesions are benign could be a candidate for liver transplantation for end stage liver disease ( esld ). ...Read more

Biopsy showed Breast cancer cells present in one lymph node, no previous or current BC showing in mammo, US or MRI, how is this possible?

Biopsy showed Breast cancer cells present in one lymph node, no previous or current BC showing in mammo, US or MRI, how is this possible?

LN + for BC cells: All the screening tests to detect breast cancer are not "100%" accurate, even bilateral MRI. Finding a "lump" in one's breast may occur without m'gm/U/S or MRI detection of "possible breast cancer". The good news is that finding these cells when the screening tests were negative, allows early treatment, and a good chance of stopping the disease. ...Read more

Would a lumbar mri show signs of ovarian or cervical tumors/cancer? Had one for back and it showed ovarian cysts (benign)

Would a lumbar mri show signs of ovarian or cervical tumors/cancer? Had one for back and it showed ovarian cysts (benign)

Depends: Usually MRI of lumbar spine has narrow window . Patients' anatomy varies from person to person. if ovary is in field of view may see tumor . Usually MRI dedicated to pelvis or abdomen more precise. ...Read more

Hx of late stage metastatic papillary thy cancer. Can thy cancer spread to the liver? Poss mass found on no contrast CT which I read is a bad sign.

Liver Masses: There is a long list of etiologies for a mass in the liver on non contrast CT scan some benign, some malignant. Imaging with ct scan with contrast as well as MRI and ultrasound can help differentiate. Often biopsy is the only way to make a definitive diagnosis. ...Read more

After TVUS the results showed a 3.3 cm lobulated involuting simple cyst on my left ovary, currently on OCP. What is the risk of malignancy?

Ovarian cyst: Malignancy risk is low for young women (pre-menopausal) with ovarian cysts. Also, consider family history , there may be increased risk in family members of someone with ovarian cancer. A safe approach is to have periodic follow-up sonograms and gynecologist evaluations. ...Read more

After ultrasound test for pancreatic cancer where would they send you if cancer showed up on the screening?

Why would ovarian cysts not show on ct scan when it showed on U/S the day before?

It depends: on how the CT was performed. and how big the cysts are. Transvaginal ultrasound has superior resolution to routine CT, so small cysts visible on US may be difficult or impossible to see on CT, particularly if the CT was performed without IV contrast. ...Read more

Mri abd prob focal modular hyperplasia & cyst (small) on liver. If md orders ultrasound of abdomen, what will it show that the MRI didn't is us needed

See below: Us may be used to confirm the cyst if the MRI was not performed with contrast. Us does not help further characterize the focal nodular hyperplasia, although it can be used for future follow up. It may also be possible that biopsy of the "probable" focal nodular hyperplasia was recommended and us is done to see if this nodule can be seen on us for us-guided biopsy. ...Read more

Can a CT scan be wrong in metaststic breast cancer to the lung if the pt is on on chemotherapy and breast cancer was stage 2 grade 3 at diagnosis?

Can a CT scan be wrong in metaststic breast cancer to the lung if the pt is on on chemotherapy and breast cancer was stage 2 grade 3 at diagnosis?

Read below: Breast cancer can progress or recur in case chemotherapy is not working well against cancer. Ct scan is the best way to look for cancer in the lungs and liver. But it can only show shadows which often require further tests...Either a biopsy or a pet scan if there is any uncertainty about the cause of the shadows. Sometimes radiotherapy can cause shadows on the lungs...So not all shadows are mets. ...Read more

I have had kidney cancer CT scan now show another small lesion in the same kidney but ultrasound does not?

Mri: Mri can be another excellent imaging modality in these scenarios. If the renal mass is so small it's difficult to determine on ct then it is likely safe to follow with another ct in 6 - 12 months. But asking about MRI is one thought in the short term. ...Read more
