PCOS usually involves irregular or absent menstrual bleeding as well as facial hair, loss of scalp hair, acne, obesity, acanthosis nigricans, etc. An endocrinologist, especially a GYN endocrinologist, is a good way to go. Overweight (Definition)

Nearly two-thirds of the United States population is overweight. There are many ways to determine if a person is overweight, but experts believe that a person's body mass index (BMI) is the best way to assess an adult's weight in relation to their height. * A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered normal. * Adults with a BMI between 25 and 29.9 are considered overweight. Possible: Your doctor placed you on metformin. A diabetes drug that lowers blood sugar. We do use this in PCO patients, but I'm concerned that your doc didn't clarify this with you when it was prescribed. I would ask if you have evidence of PCO or he/she is just presuming it. You may need a more thorough work up. ...Read more

Yes: You may have entered an androgen predominant metabolism, such as one sees with pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome), where your hormonal levels shift and you have higher percentages of androgens than estrogens. This can lead to the symptoms you describe, and is not uncommon in women who are significantly overweight. Talk to doc about options of diet, lifestyle and possible medication interventions. ...Read more

I'm about 80 pounds overweight. If i lose this weight will my body balance its hormones and will my facial hair decrease?

You need to do cardio work out and weight training- the weight training is to maintain and preserve, or even build up your muscle mass, as you lose weight. ...Read more
