Outer Ear Bleeding
Ear bleeding my 20 years old is bleeing from on ear not much but is blood with black particles. And it doesn't hurt him?
? using Q-tips?: The most common cause of ear bleeding is due to an abrasion in the canal skin from a q-tip or other object placed in the ear. The black particles may be bits of dislodged scab. Another possibility is a fungal infection which produces spores---little black dots. This can be painless. Have your doc take a look! ...Read more
How to stop ear bleeding that started 2 days ago? The doctor gave me ear drops, but it won't help, it is become worse.
After using a q~tip to clean my ear, I woke up the next day with my ear bleeding and plugged. Same as when water is in ear. How do I unplug ear?
Doctor: Given the bleeding, you really need to have a medical professional look into the ear with the appropriate equipment. You could have a perforated ear drum, which can create the sensations you're describing. It's actually best not to put anything in your ear, as it's very easy to tear your eardrum on accident! ...Read more
My 13 year old son was qtip-ing his ear, his sister scared him, he poked his ear. It started bleeding. Should we take him in tonight or is the AM ok?
Likely a scratch: The bleeding is likely caused by a minor scratch of the ear canal. However, the ear drum could be punctured. It would be best to have him examined to determine the extent of the injury and obtain treatment to aid with pain and healing. Seeking treatment tonight may be needed particularly if he is in significant pain. Otherwise, have him seen in the am and give Ibuprofen for pain for now. ...Read more
?? conditions??: If you were cleaning your ears with a q-tip or other object you could scratch the canal lining and get a bleed. If it followed pain in the ear it could be an ear drum rupture from a rapidly progressing ear infection. If neither are true I can't think of another cause. A trip to your pcp during regular hours should sort it out. ...Read more
Trauma: If bleeding is from the outer ear canal without history of trauma to the canal, then it can be due to infection or irritant exposure (excessive use of cleaning solutions for example). If from the inner ear with ruptured ear drum, then this could be from trauma and internal bleeding, inner ear infection, or abnormal growth/lesion in that area. ...Read more
For how long?: Most bleeding from the ear is self limited. If you have a blood vessel tumor in your middle ear, you will bleed without limitation. If it keeps bleeding, you need to go see a doctor. ...Read more
Using a Q-tip to: Clean the external ear canal pushes wax toward the eardrum. A scratch in the canal will heal; a ruptured ear drum would've been very painful. If her doctor okays it, use 2% hydrogen peroxide mixed 50-50 with sterile water in a sterile botle & dropper. Lay baby on her side, gently pull back the ear, instill 3-4 drops & allow 4-5 minutes in that position for it to " bubble" out the wax, not q-tips. ...Read more

Ear trauma: Local wound care usually involves washing with a gentle soap and water twice daily, applying antibiotic ointment and monitoring for signs of infection. Poking INSIDE the ear increases risk of damage to the eardrum, and this can be seen by your healthcare practitioner with an otoscope (tympanic membrane ruptures usually heal up on their own but do need to be monitored). ...Read more

I need help or advice on what to do I have bleeding in my ear. Accidently poked myself while cleaning?
Pressure.: Pressure for 10 minutes (watch a clock) will stop any bleeding unless you have a blood clotting disorder. If it's too far inside the ear canal to reach, put a piece of cotton in there and see your doctor. There is a lesson to be learned here, of course -- never put anything smaller than your elbow inside your ear! You're just pushing the dirt further back, and risking exactly what happened. ...Read more
My ear has been bleeding for about 6 hours. No other symptoms no injury just started bleeding at work running down my face?
Bleeding: Bleeding for 6 hours is a long time. I can imagine how concerned you are. Do you have a history of a bleeding disorder? Are you taking any medications that would delay your clotting time? Did you have some trauma to your ear? Is the blood coming from inside the canal? Had you inserted anything into the ear canal? Have you applied pressure?
