Rebound: Rhinitis Medicamentosa or rebound nasal congestion from this class of nasal sprays is almost universal if used more than just 3 days. I usually recommend using it for 3 more days while starting a nasal steroid spray then YOU MUST STOP the OTRIVN while continuing the nasal steroid which doesn't ever give instant relief like otrivin but prevents nasal congestion. Yes: Otrivin is a local decongestant, should not be used more than few days in a row, as continuous use would lead to rebound congestion, and shouldn't be used if you have cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, and others. Phenergan (promethazine) continuous usage can lead to tolerance: you need more of it after some time to have the same effect. Most nasal sprays: are "addictive" and REBOUND actually results in the need for MORE spray!!!! I would suggest a cortisone containing OTC Spray (EG: example only NASOCORT while you eliminate the OTRIVIN then try to use a SALINE SPRAY only!!!!! Yes it's not good: All over the counter sprays except saline are addictive as have a decongestant like afrin (oxymetazoline). They only make your problem worse and continuous. Need to see an ENT specialist to examine you and make appropriate recommendations. ...Read more
