Otocomb Otic Ear Ointment For Thrush
I have flaky itchy akin in ears, I wear hearing aids in ears and I have itchy scalp. My doctor prescribed otocomb otic ointment for ears no change.
A different drop?: I am not the biggest fan of preparations that contain neomycin as it is known to irritate the skin of some individuals, making the itching worse. Generally complete avoidance of q tips and using a different drop like dermotic (there is a generic now too) twice a day as needed can help. Also make sure you have a drying box for your hearing aids at night so they aren't too moist. ...Read more

Is it possible for a 22 mth old to get thrush in the ear? If so, will the amoxicillan she is prescribed for strep cure it, what could've caused it?
No: Thrush relates to yeast in the mouth, not the ear. There may be a fungal infection in the ear but that is quite uncommon and is usually seen with chronic middle ear or external ear infections. Amoxicillin, albeit known to make people prone to yeast infection, will be the unlikely cause of ear fungal infection, the diagnosis thereof I actually doubt. ...Read more

I have psoriasis in my ear and it is inflamed, I am using synalar (fluocinolone) otic. I am in pain, what can I do to bring the swelling down, and relieve the pain?
Sounds like infected: The pain and swelling could be caused by a bacterial or other infection. Those symptoms are not usually caused by the psoriasis. An anti-inflammatory might help the pain and swelling, but I think it'd be best to get medical attention. You might need an oral antibiotic or other precription medication (s). ...Read more

External otitis: Make sure to keep the drops at the proper temperature. Swirl them gently before applying. If the canal is too full of thick debris for the drops to go in, an ear nose and throat doctor (ENT) can suction out the pus and even place a cotton wick into the ear canal. Usually this is not necessary, but can provide relief for severe infections. ...Read more
My 6 year old had a bad ear ache so I gave him ofloxacin otic solution l10 hrs later he has no pain but cant hear out of his ear/ continue antibiotic?
Peculiar problem: Unless he has been swimming or has another reason to have an outer ear infection, the drops do nothing. Middle ear infections arise from retained mucus within the middle ear that is infected by throat germs. The mucus also prevents the ear bones from vibrating so they lose some hearing. You can either wait it out or have someone see what's really going on. The drops won't matter. ...Read more

Gave Ciprodex otic (ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone) ear drops to child & she claimed it got into her mouth (maybe draining from Eustachian tube) did not see it get in mouth. HARMFUL??
Ciprodex in mouth: Greetings. The ciprodex could get into the mouth after applying to the ear canals if your child has a perforation in her ear/s or if she has PE tubes. The drops could travel down the Eustachian tubes into the back of the mouth and throat. Even if directly applied to the mouth, it is a very low dose and will not cause any harmful problems. ...Read more

Neomycin and polymyxin b sulfates and hydrocortisone otic solution, usp can they be used in the eyes? My daughter got pink eye took her to the hospital and this is what they gave her but the bottle says for ears only?
Do not use this:
Ear drops are way too acidic for the eye. Most of them are in the 3.0 to 4.0 range. Eye drops tend to be more neutral and will sting intensely as the PhH drops below 7. If you squirt a lot of ear drops into an eye, you may get a chemical burn.
In addition to this, I try to avoid putting neomycin solution in eyes as it is toxic and can cause allergic reactions. ...Read more
