Is there anything else I can do other than Aleve (naproxen) to relieve pain from a concussion?

Is there anything else I can do other than Aleve (naproxen) to relieve pain from a concussion?

Yes: Tylenol (acetaminophen) is usually adequate for a post concussion headache. I prefer it to nsaids like advil. Sometimes, I see patients with bleeding around the brain after a concussion. Advil can make this worse.

Is Aleve (naproxen) okay to take with a slight concussion?

Is Aleve (naproxen) okay to take with a slight concussion?

No, not early on: It is typically not recommended to take nsaids, of which aleve is one, in the early stages of concussion. This is because of the small but significant risk of bleeding that occurs with NSAID use and the possibility that there may be more of an injury to the brain (a bleed from a vessel injury) than just concussion. Tylenol (acetaminophen) is preferred as it is not an nsaid.

My brother plays football, and complained about a headache all day. The pain did not go away even though we gave him Aleve (naproxen). Is it a concussion?

Concussion?: Did your brother get hit in the head? It's kind of hard to have a concussion without being hit in the head. A headache by itself is a headache, not a concussion. What you should NOT expect from HealthTap is an answer to your question, "Is it a concussion? " There is no substitute (including HealthTap) for a hands-on assessment in a doctor's office. Please reread the HealthTap disclaimer.

I agree: A neurologist may be difficult to schedule yourself. See your primary doctor and go from there. Our city has a concussion clinic which sees patients within a day or two. Neurology clinics can take 2 months 2 see you. Good luck! Happy healing!

I've been diagnosed with adult stills disease, I've been on celabrex, naproxen, predisone n now sulindac, noneofthese relieve pain, wut should I take next?

Adult Still Disease: Adult still's disease is notable for high fevers, rash, joint swelling and pain. If pain is the prime symptom especially with swelling and tenderness, then emphasis should be on prevening joint damage as well as pain. Methotrexate alone or in combination with a biological medication such as antitnf or IV tocilizumabin are often effective.

Should I take more Aleve (naproxen) to relieve my headache? What would happen if I took too high of a dose?

Should I take more Aleve (naproxen) to relieve my headache? What would happen if I took too high of a dose?

No: If you are not getting relief from the normal dose of aleve (naproxen) see your doctor for an evaluation. Doubling up on your aleve (naproxen) increases the risk of side effects which are often deleterious to various organ systems including the GI and renal systems.

CIDP management: In my review, I did not find fever as a manifestation of cidp. However, cidp is an immunological disorder that makes you more susceptible to infections. You need to see the physician who is treating your cidp for an evaluation. If he (she) has no new suggestions, ask for a referral to an infectious disease specialist.

Talk with your: Neurologist about your options. I treat migraine patients with acupuncture. However, I always desire to be in dialog with the patient's neurologist before treating. Scalp and auricular acupuncture can be particularly beneficial.

Will Aleve (naproxen) give relief to the sting of a sunburn?

NSAIDs and sunburn: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids) like aleve (naproxen) can help with inflammation, swelling and stinging of a sunburn especially if used within the first 48 hours. Please be careful about taking them with food as they can irritate the stomach. Also some of these medications can make your skin more sun sensitive so avoid any additional sun exposure if taking.

Can I combine Aleve and tylenol (acetaminophen) to help relieve my toothache? If not, which OTC pain killer is best for my toothache?

Yes: Yes, in fact those two in combination work quite well. When the pain progresses, often times no pain medications will "make a dent" in it. You should interpret your pain as a warning sign and be evaluated before it progresses to a dental emergency. An alternative to aleve (naproxen) is ibuprofen. Either of these are probably your best otc options.

Patting head with hands using moderate force provides relief from this high pitch tinnitus I've been having. But am I risking mild concussion?

No: I would encourage you to be seen to thoroughly diagnose your problem, but patting your head gently should not be able to cause you to have a concussion.

I have LBP x4 wks after intensive golf (8 days in a row). No radicular sympt. Tried PT exercises & stretching & Aleve (naproxen) w/temp. Relief only. Suggestions?

You need diagnosis: This may be something you can work with stretching and exercise but you may need to see your physician to get a definite diagnosis and therefore definite therapy. It is possible you will need imaging to see if there's anything that has caused injury, tearing, inflammation, herniation etc.

What can I do for neck pain? I have tried heat and nsaid. Started after a concussion. It's intense pain, what can I do for relief?

Good therapy: You have suffered injury to the muscles of the neck that are not healing well. You need the advice of a good therapist. You need relaxation exercises and proper positioning advice and good pillows for sleep. This is a very common and complex problem. Do not just drug yourself, find a good therapist.

Swelling and inflammation in the back of my neck, from hurting it. How to relieve those symptoms at home? I've been taking Aleve (naproxen) and using ice.

Unfortunately...: Particularly if imaging was done and negative, you will likely be stiff and sore for 3-5 days (some run longer without a muscle relaxer). If longer, or distracting / worsening pain, get rechecked.
