What OTC medication can be taken for peptic ulcers? 35 yo black, healthy male

Proton pump inhibitr: Proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole, nexium, (esomeprazole) prilosec, etc. Decrease acid production helping ulcers. They are over the counter now, but may be more expensive. Medications like pepcid, ranitidine, pepto bismol, and mylanta may help with symptoms, but they are not as strong in protecting the stomach from ulcers.

What's a good OTC medication for when you experience knife like pain in your stomach (not sure if it's from acid, inflammation, trapped gas)?

What's a good OTC medication for when you experience knife like pain in your stomach (not sure if it's from acid, inflammation, trapped gas)?

Take a couple of dee: Any medication that you take by mouth will take more than a few minutes before it can provide any relief of symptoms. So if your pain is knife like, it must be quite transient (lasting <1 minute). Such pains are common and most of us have them. But they disappear as fast as they come on...so do not to take them seriously as these are not related to any disease, simply take a couple of deep breaths.

How long do stomach ulcers take to heal. On medication but still very sore pain in my stomach when I eat?

Depends.: It depends on many factors, including the initial size of the ulcer, what medicine you're taking to heal it, whether H pylori is present, and what caused the ulcer in the first place. In general, however, if you're not starting to see some relief within 7 to 10 days of starting medication for a proven ulcer, I would call your doctor back. Good luck.

I have a stomach ulcer and I like to drink. Is there a medication that can coat my stomach before I drink alcohol?

You seriously need: Help. Do you want to die? What you are proposing is crazy (and this is coming from a shrink). Please get help. Alcoholics anonymous is free, confidential and a great source of support. At this point, would also encourage you to let your gastroenterologist know what you are doing. An addiction medicine specialist is also very important.

What is the best medication to treat gastric ulcer. My stomach produces much Gas and upper part of it got swollen up. Being using omeprazole?

What is the best medication to treat gastric ulcer. My stomach produces much Gas and upper part of it got swollen up. Being using omeprazole?

Maybe not just ulcer: Feeling full of "gas" may reflect malabsorption of food (like gluten, lactose), intake of poorly digested food, or choosing foods known to promote gas (beans, fizzy drinks). Sometimes its more complicated--a stomach emptying too slowly, bacterial overgrowth syndrome, delayed intestinal function, partial obstruction from any cause, infection, rectum problems, &/or pathology outside the gut.
