How does an osteopath influence a persons health?

How does an osteopath influence a persons health?

Like MD +adjustments: Most osteopaths practice conventional allopathic (western) medicine, so will influence health the same way an md might. A subset also practice osteopathic manipulation, a subtle form of bodywork that can be very helpful for musculoskeletal problems.I wish more osteopaths did osteopathy! to find an osteopath that specializes in classical osteopathic manipulation see http://www.Academyofosteopathy.Org. ...Read more

What are the specialties that osteopaths can specialize in?

What are the specialties that osteopaths can specialize in?

Any specialty: Osteopathy was originally based upon the idea that misalignment of bones creates health problems, but over time most osteopaths have been trained & practice almost identically to allopathic md's. While some osteopaths specialize in osteopathic manipulation, most don't do any adjustments. In applying for specialty training they are considered to be like md's and thus can be found in all specialties. ...Read more

How can you find out it some osteopaths are good at manipulations or not?

Ask or research: This is a good question because the majority of osteopaths do not practice any manipulations. You can always inquire at their office, but to see lists of osteopaths who specialize in manipulation visit www.Academyofosteopathy.Org/ & www.Cranialacademy.Com/ while this won't tell you if they are "good at manipulations" this tells you they have special interest/training & are likely to be very good. ...Read more

I would like 2 only use natural (but effective) remedies when possible. There are no drs like that here. What can one do?Are Osteopaths what I need?Thnx

Here's my take....: Natural remedies that are effective are very limited for very limited conditions. The natural remedies that work have been around for 100s of years and so have been the ones that don't work. If natural remedies took care of people's illnesses, the field of contemporary medicine wouldn't exist. If you have a medical problem, please don't experiment you could cause more harm see an MD/DO. ...Read more

Are osteopaths similar to chiropractors in the u.S.?

Are osteopaths similar to chiropractors in the u.S.?

Most are not!: Curiously, most us osteopaths do not practice osteopathic manipulation, the original basis of their profession; most practice only allopathic medicine. But a minority do practice manipulation with great skill. While there are many fine chiropractors, many are not so great. I find my patients get more consistent benefits from osteopaths, whose technique is gentle. See www.Academyofosteopathy.Org/. ...Read more

Who are people called osteopaths?

Who are people called osteopaths?

Similar to MD's: While osteopaths started with the belief that treating bone misalignments was key to healing, over time they have become nearly identical to md's in their training & philosophy. However, they go to osteopathic medical schools & are given a do degree. They have the same legal standing as md's.Osteopaths are a bit more likely to become family doctors. A minority do practice osteopathic manipulation. ...Read more

Can osteopaths and herbalists work together?

Can osteopaths and herbalists work together?

Depends: If the osteopath is in brain surgery, unlikely to be working with an herbalist. By after surgery the doctor may go to the herbalist for aroma therapy in order to relax from a busy day of doing surgeries. If the osteopath is prescribing medical marijuana, is that considered working with an herbalist :). ...Read more

Do osteopaths have anything to do with herbalists?

Do osteopaths have anything to do with herbalists?

Usually not but...: The osteopathic profession started with the concept that alignment of bones plays a key role in health & treated people with adjustments. Over time osteopaths have become nearly identical to md's & now most don't even do adjustments (though many do & these can be very helpful). Like md's, osteopaths are not trained to use herbs, but the average osteopath is a bit more holistic & some do use herbs. ...Read more
