Tested positive for influenza a today. Started on tamiflu (oseltamivir). When will I feel better? Pretty much miserable!

Tamiflu (oseltamivir): This antiviral does not cure influenza like we think antibiotics will cure a skin infection.what it does is shorten the duration of the flu by inhibiting the flu virus from replicating itself. Thus instead of lasting 7-10 days symptoms may only last 4-7 days. It does help prevent influenza in those exposed to the virus that are not symptomatic yet or give them a very limited disease. ...Read more

You all still may be: Contagious. Tamiflu (oseltamivir) can shorten the course of the illness symptoms, but your respiratory secretions probably still have some infectious particles. I would still try to keep your other children away from the baby at least until all symptoms are totally gone for 24 hours...and for you and them, good hand washing. Ideally if you have an option of someone else doing the care for the baby, also do that. ...Read more

Yes: You are given 10 doses of the medicine. The medicine is very effective when it works that you feel better fast but you would not like to develop resistant strain by stopping then.
