If you miss pills you should use a back up method of contraception until you are into the next package. Use the back up now and, if your period is late, check a pregnancy test and repeat it in 3-5 days if it is negative. ...Read more

Birth control (ortho tri-cyclen lo) and cascara sagrada, which is a supplementof these have any dangerous side effects if I drink tomorrow night?

Diarrhea: Cascara sagrada is an herb that has laxative effects. Taking this with alcohol is likely to cause significant diarrhea. Is birth control induced hair thinning/ follicle miniturization reversible? If I switch from Loestrn Fe 1/20 to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo will that help?

Contraceptives- hair: Yes, it does, there is a genetic predisposition, oe even in patients who started before taking the pill.
The American Hair Loss Association recognizes that for the most part oral contraceptives are a safe and effective form of birth control. The AHLA also recognizes that the "pill" has been clinically proven to have other health benefits for some women who use them. However, with that said, the AHLA believes that it is imperative for all women especially for those who have a history of hair loss in their family to be made aware of the potentially devastating effects of birth control pills on normal hair growth.
The American Hair Loss Association recommends that all women interested in using oral contraceptives for the prevention of conception should only use low-androgen index birth control pills, and if there is a strong predisposition for The genetic hair loss in your family we recommend the use of another non-hormonal form of birth control. ...Read more

Is there a lower risk for blood clots when taking Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo? Safer than Yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol)? Can't seem to find how much hormone is in Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo

Clot risk: The risk of clot is slightly higher in YAZ (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) do due the type of progesterone in it. It has nothing to do with the dose really. If for example you had a clot on Ortho tri cyclen, no one would suggest you use tri cyclen lo instead. Blood clot risk also lowers after 3 months of use just like it does for menopausal women on hormone replacement therapy. Every OCP in the US is low dose except for one. ...Read more
