I had a hysterectomy 4 months ago. All of my ovarian cyst symptoms are back. Is it okay to go back on my birth control ( ortho try-cyclene low)?

I had a hysterectomy 4 months ago. All of my ovarian cyst symptoms are back. Is it okay to go back on my birth control ( ortho try-cyclene low)?

Yes: Unfortunately, removal of the uterus (hysterectomy) does not treat ovarian cysts. I would recommend seeing your ob/gyn for a sono to evaluate the ovaries before restarting your pills, however. Birth control has benefits but also risks, so you would want to make sure you are treating the right thing. ...Read more

See a Gyn?: Can you not get her to a Gyn for an office visit? She needs further attention and an ER is great for acute emergencies but not long-term (or complicated) problem solving. As a last resort, ER again is better than ignoring it. ...Read more

Recently got out of ER for hemorrhagic ovarian cyst rupturing, but pain meds aren't helping. Could there be damage from the rupture?

Recently got out of ER for hemorrhagic ovarian cyst rupturing, but pain meds aren't helping. Could there be damage from the rupture?

Ovarian cyst : A hemorrhagic ovarian cyst can cause pain at onset, and can continue to cause pain until the body resorbs the blood. However, if pain is escalating or unrelieved, it is possible that there is a continuing bleed from the site of where the original cyst ruptured and bled. In that case, re-evaluation would be warranted. ...Read more

Just started ortho tri cyclen lo birth control. % of people that actually get blood clots seems too common ? Scared. What is the actual % of people who get serious side affects from this drug ?

I : I am not aware of the actual percentages of each side effect of this birth control pill (bcp). If you check the package insert, this information should be there. On the other hand, i can tell you about my personal experience. I have been in practice well over 5 years. I prescribe bcp's all the time. I have never had one patient develop a blood clot from bcp. I believe part of the reason is that i screen my patients very well. I do not give the pill to anyone who has had a history of blood clots or a family history. Also i will not give the pill to a smoker over 35, and strongly advise against it in my younger patients. Bcp's are safe and very effective if given to the right patient. They protect against ovarian and uterine cancers. If your doctor felt you were a good candidate, then your odds are very low for developing any serious complications. Take care. ...Read more
