What is better to treat low estrogen in 30 yr old female (6 p/mg), Premarin (conjugated estrogens) , estradiol or birth control?
Depends: If you have an intact uterus then I would use a birth control pill as it provides both the estrogen and progesterone you need to prevent pregnancy and endometrial hyperplasia. If you have had a hysterectomy than both premarin (conjugated estrogens) and estradiol (estrace) would be fine. The estrogen in birth control by the way is estradiol as well. Birth control also lowers ovarian cancer risk (combined pills only) ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Best 2mg estradiol/100mg progestrn dosing regime to trigger period in 27yr old w/ 2yr amenorrhea? All tests normal (@fertility clinic), estrogen low.
What are goals? : The treatment depends on the goals. You mention a fertility clinic. If you are trying to get treatment would be modified to help stimulate ovulation. If you're simply trying to regulate the menstrual cycles birth control pills would be the most common option. If you're experiencing premature ovarian failure then other considerations are necessary to manage this problem ...Read more

Prempro (conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone) works well but expensive. What is exact alternative?
Options: There are options. Prempro has different dosages of estrogen and Progesterone component. Estrogen (estradiol) comes in 0.3mg, 0.45mg, and 0.625mg. The Medroxyprogesterone acetate comes as 1.5mg 2.5mg and 5mg. As your dosage of estrogen goes up, so does progesterone. You can take estrogen as pill or patch. I like the patch. And then take Provera (medroxyprogesterone) for Progesterone (2.5 or 5.0mg). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Many options...: Ortho tri cyclen (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) lo is a triphasic birth control regimen that cycles between ethinyl estradiol, norgestimate, and inert pills - has lowest hormone dosing of the triphasics. Depending on how you are tolerating this cycling, you can try a different regimen with low hormone levels such as loestrin (which has a set level of hormones for each pill of the month). ...Read more

Ls -dx biopsy 2x protopic-no help estrace (estradiol) for thinning tissue freq flares on clob/estrace (estradiol). Peer rev studies lack of testosterone receptors ls opinio?
Potent Steroid Best: The evidence of topical testosterone being useful in the treatment of lichen sclerosis is weak. Most studies demonstrate better control with the potent corticosteroid clobetasol dipropionate (0.05%). The benefit of using Protopic is mixed. I would recommend seeing a board certified dermatologist for this condition. Good luck. ...Read more

Took estratest HS for years with good results. Now on Premarin (conjugated estrogens) .625. Don't like it. Which is the closest HRT to estratest HS with no weight gain?
Testosterone: Estratest (esterified estrogens and methylestosterone) had a hefty dose of testosterone for women, which is why you liked it -- but it isn't the healthiest drug for women to take because of the testosterone. It's no longer available on the us market. The estrogen you're taking is one half of the dose that was in estratest, (esterified estrogens and methylestosterone) again probably having something to do with you're not liking it. Talk with your gyn. There is disagrement re estrogen tx. ...Read more

Is there an alternative to ortho tri cyclen (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) that wont enhance depression?
Perhaps: For most people on a low estrogen formulation of the oral contraceptive, it is the Progesterone component of the pill that is most associated with depression. There are many different progestoerones and a different one from the one in orthotricyclin may have less of a mood effect. Norgestimate (in your pill) is usually well tolerated but some feel drospirenone (in Yaz, (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) and others) may be better. ...Read more
