How long does it take for side effects of iron tablets to wear off?

How long does it take for side effects of iron tablets to wear off?

Which side effect?: Constipation is one of the side effects, and it will go away, once you stop taking the pills, though you may address it taking fiber laxative. If you have other side effects, please describe what those are.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Any side effects to iron supplements? I have anemia & am starting 60mg of a slow release tablet of iron tonight. Anything I should know before taking?

Any side effects to iron supplements? I have anemia & am starting 60mg of a slow release tablet of iron tonight. Anything I should know before taking?

Constipation and...: Iron supplements often cause constipation and will turn your stool black. They can also cause stomach upset and occ. Diarrhea and cramping- these tend to lessen over time. But they are usually well-tolerated. Taking vit. C with them improves absorption.
The best-absorbed form of iron is actually iron bis-glycinate so you might want to try that form. ...Read more

I had a blood test a few months ago and blood cell count was normal but on the lower side so my dr gave me iron tablets and now my blood tests are excellent how do I maintain good iron levels?

Were you anemic?: Do you have heavy periods> Were you iron deficient? Some people require iron supplements but most get by with good sources of bioavailable iron, mostly meats, unless they have a cause for iron loss, i.e. gi bleed, woman with heavy menses, exfoliative dermatitis, etc. First confirm it is indeed iron deficiency, secondly treat appropriately. ...Read more

Cut iron pill in half. Take everynight. Felt like got stuck. Gaggin, burnin, now swollen. Next day still pain, swollen, one side hard in back of throat. Scared?

This feels terrible,: Doesn't it? Obviously you were trying to deal with a large pill, but it still didn't go down smoothly. Drinking with LOTS of water helps. The pill could have traumatized your pharynx/esophagus, perhaps scratching/even ulcerating an area. The sensation can last for days but should slowly improve. As long as you can swallow and no blood, OK to watch. If worsens/persists, need to see Doc. Good luck! ...Read more

Iron pill cut half, take every night. Last night felt stuck in throat, burned bad, gagging, now one side of throat is sore, hard, swollen. Could this be pill?

The reason: Why iron pills should NOT be cut in half is exactly your problem. Iron itself is VERY irritating to the mucosa (lining) of the mouth, pharynx, espohagis etc. My advice is drink lots of MILK,,, eat some soft BREAD and drink more milk! A simple x ray (flouroscope) can see if the iron is still there'
Hope this helps

My iron level is 24 can I increase it with iron tablets and loads of high iron foods in a month of time?

YES: But to raise the iron in the RED BLOOD CELLS and make more red cells if you are "anemic" requires a high BINDING CAPACITY for IRON and enough FERRITIN to CARRY the iron to the cells!
Its a PART of the story and dietary intake will increase the ironlevel as long as its being absorbed!

Hope this info is useful!

I have had low iron for 3 years and have been on 3 iron tablets and day but my iron is still low and I'm constantly tiered?

What's the source?: If you have anemia, you either aren't making enough red blood cells - or you are losing them somehow. With a low iron count, you may be losing iron through blood loss. In a young woman with periods, menstrual blood loss is a likely culprit. But you can lose blood through your bowel movements, in your urine, by bruising, or even nosebleeds. Talk to your doctor to see if you can identify the problem. ...Read more

My husband has anaemia. His BCwas 9.4 he has been on iron tablets for 3 weeks. 1 tablet 3 times a day. BC is now 8 is this normal?

Needs evaluation: Iron deficiency in a man is almost always due to occult (hidden) blood loss, usually from gastrointestinal bleeding. To treat iron deficiency anemia with iron and not look for cause of bleeding is completely inadequate. Perhaps his anemia is not due to iron deficiency. If so, iron tablets will not help. He needs follow up with doctor or a second opinion. ...Read more
