Does Carafate (sucralfate) help heal ulcer from non-infectious ulcer (i.E. Prior pancreatitis damage) in stomach/upper intestine for non-alcohol drinker. ?
Prednisone is a synthetic cortisone. The body makes cortisone, a natural hormone made in adrenal glands. The body converts it to Hydrocortisone to become active. 25 mg of cortisone has about same effect as 5 mgm prednisone. The average person would produce 3-6 mg of pred daily. So why use a substitute? The synthetic has more anti-inflammatory effect; but has less effect ...Read more
Does Carafate (sucralfate) heal damage caused by chronic acid reflux? If I take this, how can I prevent aluminum toxicity?
I'm a singer with "damage" to my vocal chords from intubation x3. I also discovered severe gastric reflux, Nexium (esomeprazole) how long until my voice comes back?
It depends : True damage to the vocal cords from intubations is rare, and permanent damage even rarer. Most sore throat take 1-2 days to get better and sometimes 1-2 weeks in the case of multiple attempts. Therefore it is usually a few days until the voice should get back to normal. If you have more detailed questions try contacting your anesthesiologist who intubated you. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can severe gum inflammation gums that need professionally cleaning cause ongoing acid reflux? I'm on ranitidine again
The reverse is it: Severe gum inflammation , mostly on the lingual, the inside of the mouth, can be associated with reflux. So, you need a cleaning from a dentist who knows the condition and sequelae . Even cleaning on your own has to be more thorough . you need to rinse with water after a reflux. Try plain baking soda or a baking soda toothpaste to diminish the acid from the reflux. See a dentist soon !! ...Read more

No really: Carafate (sucralfate) is good at helping ulcers heal. If you have ulceration in your esophagus from acid reflux, then it might help. If you just have inflammation (aka "reflux esophagitis") then carafate (sucralfate) is generally a waste of time and money. It's really difficult to take (4 times per day) so I only advise my patients in whom I suspect ulcers to take carafate (sucralfate). ...Read more
Hi, if i take lactic acid bacillus over a long term (6-8 months) to reduce IBS or other stomach issues, it has caused acidity and pain in upper stomach region.
Not likely: Typically lactobacillus is taken in a capsule that doesn't even dissolve until it gets through your stomach. You probably have another gastrointestinal issue, possibly H.Pylori in the upper digestive tract responsible for the acidity and pain. See your physician about treatment for this. ...Read more

Sure...but why?: Alcohol hurts when you pour it on a cut on your skin, right? It will do the same thing to your stomach if the lining is damaged. Why would you not wait a little longer for your stomach to heal before pouring in something like alcohol? For now, enjoy a healthy glass of water when out with your friends--they & we don't want to see you hurt. ...Read more
