Doctor insights on:
Not entirely: If positive it needs to be confirmed. If negative, you should repeat it as some people take up to a year to make enough antibodies for a positive result. If you wish to make sure, ask your doctor for an HIV nucleic acid test which would be conclusive at 4 months after exposure. ...Read more
If after a risk event ten years ago would your body still produce detectable hivantibodies for an oraquick test to detect. I took 4 tests all negative?
Whoa!: Ten years ago? You are HIV-negative. You did not contract the virus. I am seriously worried that you would even ask this question. Obsessing over this is doing yourself a terrible disservice. If you cannot get these thoughts out of you mind -- and it's not your fault if you can't -- talk with your physician about this. We hear this all the time and can teach you tricks to manage these thoughts. ...Read more
Would eating and drinking affect an oraquick test i waited 30 minutes before i took it. Ive took three tests all negative. Do u think im safe?
Depends: When do you think you got exposed to HIV? Antibody tests, may some times many months to turn positive, rarely, up to a year. It would be useful to get a fourth generation test, and even better to get tested for HIV nucleic acid. If you potential exposure to HIV was more than a year ago, you are likely to be safe. If an oraquick test was negative for HIV 5 1/2wks after the event, would it likely still be negative at 7 weeks &then at the suggested 3month mark?
Probably: But why test if you want to guess at results. There are rare individuals who do not become antibody positive until 6 mos after exposure. If you want to spend the money for an RNA pcr you can be certain that if it is now negative you have not been infected. Be safe, be protected. ...Read more

Accuracy of negative oraquick test taken 6wk after 1time 5min protected sex w/ a lady who has sex with many (status unknown)? Will it likely stay neg?
No need for testing: I am confident that this panic is very common post sex with a partner as you describe. But, you were protected (wearing a condom). You did everything right. There is no need to test at all and of course the test you took was negative. Please do not spend another moment worrying about this. ...Read more
I tested negative for HIV with the at home oraquick test 10 months after a possible exposure. Can i take this as a 100% negative result? Would like to stop worrying about this.
Over ten years ago i had unprotected encounter. I have taken two oraquick test last couple of weeks. Both were negative for hiv. Am i safe?
Yes: From the oraquick website - Oral fluid HIV tests are very accurate. In studies, the OraQuick oral fluid test detected 91.7 percent of people who were infected with HIV, and 99.9 percent of people who were not infected with HIV. If you have more questions about oral fluid HIV tests, talk to your doctor. It is ten years that is good. I agree that it is best to discuss with your physician. ...Read more
