Oral Antiviral And Oral Antibiotic Taken At Sometime In A 6 Year Old
Which medicine is good for nail fungal infection? I m already taking fluconazole ip 150mg one time in a week from 6 months.
Onychomycosis: Nailbed infections start in the nail matrix and need to grow out from there. This process takes longer in the toenails than the fingernails (+/- 12 mo vs 6 mo). Treatment w/ fluconazole/terbinafin usually daily; some other agents (itraconazole) 1 wk/mo (or other permutations) w/75-80% cure. Sometimes the nail has to be removed. Newer topicals may as well help alone/in combo w/oral antifungals. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Will taking tetralysal antibiotics for my skin reduce the effectiveness of my oral contraceptive at all? (18 year old girl speaking)
Sounds ok: The current thinking is that except for rifampin, other commonly-used antibiotics do not alter the effectiveness of birth control pills. This is likely true, presuming a person is not sick with vomiting or diarrhea, or some other condition that decreases the absorption of a swallowed pill. One can look up: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12063491 ...Read more
Yes-- only if needed: It is possible to use oral antibiotics in a young baby. However, they should only be used if the child has a bacterial infection. Many infections in young children (such as common colds) are viral in etiology and will get better on their own without antibiotics. Using antibiotics when not medically appropriate can cause them to be less effective when your child gets very sick & really needs them. ...Read more

Diagnosis?: Did your doctor make a diagnosis or just cover all bases with those two prescriptions? While not all lesions have cures, most can be resolved or treated to produce satisfactory comfort. If you 'dr' was a physician, i would recommend that you see a general dentist, oral surgeon or oral medicine practitioner. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can I use same dosage of azithromycin in pneumonia for a 6 year old weight 25 kg and also add 375 mg augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) 3x1 ? is there a risk of over dosage?
OD on antibiotics: There have been recent reports to suggest that for community acquired pneumonia, a single primary line of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin is sufficient. Azithromycin, preferred for its shorter duration has limited efficacy. Adding Augmentin, (amoxicillin and clavulanate) which has another chemical added to Amoxicillin, to another antibiotic is thus not generally advised, unless your doctor determines resistance or other causes ...Read more

Have tried prescription Valtrex (valacyclovir) pills and ointment at the first signs. Still have fever blisters twice a month or more . Any preventative options.?
May need suppression: If you are having outbreaks twice a month despite using Valtrex (valacyclovir) pills and ointment when you first feel an outbreak starting, you probably need to take Valtrex (valacyclovir) or another pill on a daily basis to try and suppress the outbreaks. Patients can take Valtrex (valacyclovir) pills for up to a year every day. After 1 year you can decide with your doctor if you need to continue or if you can stop. Talk to your doctor. ...Read more

Is the RSV virus dangerous in a 10 month old infant? She has been on antibiotics for 6 days. Today she has a fever of 102 and a clear chest xray.
Take it seriously: Appropiate hydration and support is essential.Any time a child is ill and a fever spikes, a concern arises for a secondary infection ie-ear infection.Antibiotics do not treat RSV so the fact that the child is taking one does not change the outcome. If your infant is more lethargic, drinking or urinating less, working harder to breath , or fever persists call your md right away. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
