What are the benefits of optimism?

What are the benefits of optimism?

Many: Generally optimistic people are more happy and spread that happiness to those around them. Some think it improves internal body function and certainly helps the day to go by better. As long as the optimism is not obvious in the face of things that are not so optimistic.

Do bipolars have a hard time striking a balance between optimism and pessimism?

Do bipolars have a hard time striking a balance between optimism and pessimism?

Yes: Each time their mood changes they have to learn to live with their new emotions. It is not easy. Also, if they have a mixed mood state they can find themselves experiencing optimism and pessimism simultaneously and this can be extremely confusing to the individual.

If depressed patients > likely forego procedures due to pessimism, are medicated depressed patients more likely to say okay due to iatrogenic optimism?

If depressed patients > likely forego procedures due to pessimism, are medicated depressed patients more likely to say okay due to iatrogenic optimism?

Medical complaints: Depressed patients are more sensitive to pain and complain of medical problems more often. They are at risk of undergoing more unnecessary medical diagnostic procedures and starting pain medications than other patients due to the severity of their complaints. The psychiatric treatment would decrease the intensity of their problems and improve their tolerance to procedures if they are needed.

Feeling Good: There are several types of depression. Reactive depression occurs as a result of loss and eventually we adjust. If one does not adjust or if the cause is not clear certainly seek professional help. "feeling good" by david burns is an excellent self-help book based on science. Don't let the thickness of it intimidate you. Take it bit by bit. The very best to you. Masturbation is not cause.

How do you keep a positive attitude when sometimes life is bad?

How do you keep a positive attitude when sometimes life is bad?

Seek meaning: Viktor frankl, founder of modern psychotherapy, kept his fellow-inmates alive & upbeat in the concentration camps. Seek meaning (often the image of those you love), reflect that life is unfair but that you can still be a good person, define who you are in terms of your work and service ethic, manage time well & organize yourself, have a kind word for whoever you meet. Just my thoughts, cheers.

If a person has a positive attitude while they have a injury will they heal faster?

If a person has a positive attitude while they have a injury will they heal faster?

Yes: Positive atttitude creates a balanced attitude towards recovery - I have seen people who after stroke say "i had a good life and I am grateful" get discharged quicker than one who is depressed who end up having difficulty coping with expected recovery plans and take longer to heal.

How can I keep a positive attitude when stressed?

How can I keep a positive attitude when stressed?

Relax: You don, t have to be an enlightened guru to practice a simple meditation technique called "mindfulness". Take a deep full breath (hold one hand on your belly and one hand on tour chest). Your belly should expand and your chest remain still. Pick up a flower, a stone, or a piece of chocolate. Get into a comfortabble position. Close your eyes and pay full attention to the object in hand for 5 min.

How do I keep up a positive attitude with depression?

How do I keep up a positive attitude with depression?

You're already warm: Without knowing more about the depression and you, it's hard to be specific. But, in any case - just wanting to and believing that there is a way to keep up a positive attitude makes it likely that you can be a winner. You may benefit from cbt, a training/practice program in anything you are interested in, meditation, exercise, whatever! If you're in good tx, stay. If not, find some you'll like.

Is it possible to beat anxiety without medication or counseling? By trying to maintain a strong, positive attitude?

Is it possible to beat anxiety without medication or counseling? By trying to maintain a strong, positive attitude?

Yes you can...: Unless anxiety is very severe, regular anxiety symptoms could be treated with lifestyle routines that can help make you feel more relaxed. Mediation and or prayer, exercise, yoga, art (any type) making can help relieve symptoms. If despite of doing all this you still experience symptoms then I would say it is time to see a therapist.

What are the statistics for the survival of lymphoma?

Depends on type: An aggressive lymphoma can actually be cured in many cases but the more slow growing indolent lymphomas have high remission rates but are currently incurable. The above pertains to non-hodgkin lymphoma. Hodgkin lymphoma is almost totally curable in its early stages but less so if more advanced.
