Hypertension (Definition)

A blood pressure reading has two numbers: a systolic blood pressure and a diastolic blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure is the maximum pressure the blood exerts on the vessels when the heart is beating. The diastolic blood pressure is the pressure the blood exerts on the vessels in between heartbeats. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, begins when the systolic blood pressure remains above 140 or when the diastolic blood pressure remains above 90. Hypertension can be a result of increased blood flow through vessels or increased resistance to ...Read more

I've been having headaches across my eye brows daily for the last couple of weeks. Allergy medicine, or ain relievers don't work. What else should?

Infection?: Daily headaches could be due to sinusitis, allergies, high blood pressure and even matters related to the brain. Sometimes allergy medicines need to be adjusted or nasal steroid sprays need to be added to reduce allergy symptoms. An antibiotic may be needed if a sinus infection is present. Sometimes a ct scan of the sinuses and brain is needed to pinpoint the cause. See your doctor. ...Read more

More info: It could be dry eyes or blepharitis or other cause of red eyes. It says you take synthroid (thyroxine) so a condition called thyroid eye disease could also play a role. I wold recommend frequent lubrication drops (artificial tears) every few hours and if there is no improvement in a couple of weeks then see your eye doctor. ...Read more

I always get upper shoulder pain and get dizzy sometimes worst vertigo when im cooking what is that? I do have allergies, diabetic, hypertension, anxiety

? prolonged standing: One would only be able to speculate that working with your arms extended during cooking is contributing to the shoulder pain. Also, prolonged standing might be associated with feeling light-headed; less likely to cause vertigo. Your blood pressure medicine might be contributing. Have your doctor check your BP while sitting, then standing, to see if it drops contributing to dizziness. Best wishes:) ...Read more

"Swelling of right optic disc and the venous pulsations were present on left side" what are venous pulsations? I have intercranial hypertension.

"Swelling of right optic disc and the venous pulsations were present on left side" what are venous pulsations? I have intercranial hypertension.

Needs vigilance!: In monitoring those with increased intracranial pressure, seeing if the retinal veins pulse spontaneously has been a reassuring sign that the pressure is not dangerously high. So it might be reassuring in your situation. But it is not 100% reliable: individuals without intracranial hypertension can also have no spontaneous venous pulsation. Your doctor is no doubt watching these signs carefully! ...Read more

What's the difference between idiopathic intracranial hypertension and occult optic neuropathy and are they dangerous and can you have both?

My response: Your question is best addressed as follows: Idiopathic means unclear or unknown, and you likely are referring to the entity of Pseudotumor Cerebri, which can cause loss of vision if untreated. Optic neuropathy can have many different causes, but here, this is not "occult".

Can you have intracranial hypertension with an opening pressure of 18? Severe headaches & head pressure, pulsatile tinnitus, dizziness. Head/eyes/face pulsate in sync with my heartbeat. No optic swell

Yes: Normal opening pressure is up to 15. You can have all of the sx you describe with an opening pressure of 18. The lack of optic swelling is a good finding but it does not eliminate the need to address the pressure as a cause of your symptoms. Talk with your doctor about this, . ...Read more

Can I dive I have ocular hypertension? I'm treating it with eye specialist visits as scheduled.

You may: You are concerned that the pressure of the water on your eye may increase the pressure. It probably does briefly but the will quickly equilibrate and drop the pressure if the drains are functioning. If you were to take up diving as a profession, then there might be some issue, but recreational diving should not be a problem. ...Read more

No effect: These activities in the normal way do not have any effect on intraocular pressure or the progression of ocular hypertension. No problem: I have not found any ingredient in these herbal tea which would cause hypertension. As for ragweed allergy, you are actually allergic to the airborne pollen and not to the flower itself. Even if the chamomile pollen in the flower cross-react with ragweed, it will be highly unlikely to cause you allergic symptoms given that the chamomile would have been subjected to processing and heating. ...Read more
