6 yr with eye nerve cupping like her
dad.what should I do and any underlying conditions if she has this? Thanks
Possibly congenital : Only a carefully conducted clinical examination with useful tests will be instrumental in determining whether the child's optic nerve cupping is pathological or a variant of normal. The father with similar clinical findings doesn't necessarily rule out disease in the child. The father could have glaucomatous disease. He should be carefully examined too. My advice: make an appt. with a glaucoma MD ...Read more
No: Cupping treatments do not have any effect on Hepatitis B. That means cupping does not make a patient's Hepatitis disease better or worse if she has the disease, and cupping does not make it more likely or less likely for a person to catch Hepatitis B, if she does not have the virus. Of course, every person who does not have the virus should get the vaccine... to prevent Hepatitis B. ...Read more

Cupping with normal pressure.
My ophthamologist has told me for 3 years that I have severe cupping that he says might occur in 1% of pts. Meaning?
Depends on factors: like your visual field results, your optic nerve topography, your race (as in african americans the cup may appear physiologically larger, but is considered normal), and s/he needs to discuss what impact that has with YOUR eyes. If the pressures are normal, the cupping has not progressed, your vision is good & pressures normal, s/he may be monitoring you for now. Ask your eye doctor for sure! ...Read more
I have had cupping using the glass cups. I have developed areas of itchin. And the areas have become dis colored. Could this be caused by the cupping?
Disc shape: The disc at the back of the eye is where the nerves of vision exit to go to the brain. The shape of this varies with heredity and internal eye pressure. Deep cupping can be hereditary but is associated with advanced glaucoma. In this condition, there is deep cupping and the disc looks very pale as well. It is one of the things monitored in the management of the condition glaucoma. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Chinese cupping?: If you are referring to the above, it is common to get bruising after cupping but I've not seen blisters. Are the cups too hot? Are you on a blood thinner? Please see your doc to make sure your health is ok for cupping. Peace and good health. ...Read more
Generally Yes: In most cases i see no problems with swimming and laying in the sun after acupuncture and cupping, but it seems reasonable for you to ask the practitioner who is performing these procedures. In some cases they might have a reason to advise against it (depending on the reason for your treatment), but i believe it would almost always be ok- unless they want you to avoid exertion or becoming heated. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Cupping: Recommend no vigorous physical activity after acupuncture procedures for a minimum of four hours. I actually suggest that my patients don't do physical training that day. With that in mind - would say that after that time period one should be able to swim after cupping. People may stare at bruised areas on skin. Cupping may be done with or without prior use of needles in that area. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Good question: This is an ancient practice now popularized by some of the Olympic swimmers. One of my patients told me that it really relieved her muscle ache at her shoulders. But I am not aware of any scientific study on this subject. Since it does no harm (although it leaves a transient burn mark), one may try it for muscle pain. As for eliminating disease, I am a skeptic. ...Read more

Is wet cupping therapy or medicinal bleeding effective for the treatment of nasal allergy and asthma?
No: Bleeding was prevalent among some practitioners in the us in the late 1700's and early 1800's but abandoned.Cupping was often used with respiratory illnesses until the early 1940's. It is still used occasionally by non- physicians. There is no proven medical benefit for either and significant patient injury is an occasional complication. ...Read more
Anyone heard of natural way to clear fluid for child ears. I tried cupping ear w my hands to create pressure/movement and it seemed to clear fluid. ?
Prevention is best: Prevention is best. One easy manner is to not feed the child while the child is laying flat. Always feed while upright if possible. Chronic fluid that accumulates doesnt cause significant problems - often will resolve (but does need to be followed to make sure that it does or doesnt cause significant hearing loss). I generally don't recommend maneuvers such as you describe. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
