See below: Visit your father frequently and ask to speak to the nursing staff and/or physicians in charge if you have any concern about the treatment being given. The staff will be more attentive when they know a family member is actively involved in your fathers care. Ask if the center has a Patient Advocate you can speak with. If HIV positive blood was on a surface, could someone get infected if they touched it with an open wound? How long does HIV live for outside the body?

Yes: But this would be extremely rare. Hiv will not survive long outside the body, but might if the blood has not yet dried up entirely. Musky foul odor coming from open wound. Does this mean it's infected?

Musky foul odor coming from open wound. Does this mean it's infected?

Odor not always bad: An important part of wound healing is inflammation so the wound area gets red, hot, swollen, tender. There will be drainage. Since this drainage is organic, it loses its blood supply and will putrefy (rot). This is absolutely normal and part of healing wounds. Unless the wound is getting worse, the odor is meaningless. Clean it gently, keep covered with clean dressings changed every other day. ...Read more

Someone handshaked with me with a new open wound and blood on hand. I also have a cut on hand. His health is unknown. Do I need to test for HIV and HCV? What's the possibility to get infected?

No risk, no worry: Nobody ever gets blood borne infections from exposures like this. You would have to have a fresh cut of your own, which came in direct contact with wet blood from the other person's cut. This is nothing to worry about. You don't need testing. ...Read more

Blister is hard, red and tender when touched. Not open wound. Inside vaginal lips. Just 1. Can it be friction or bc I’m getting sick? 1 sex partner

Vaginal blister:pain: At age 21, the blister is not likely to be caused by "friction", unless very prolonged sexual activity has depleted natural lubrication. I have an open cut in my nostril. Will it get infected? I put peroxide on it. It had puss.

Natural Healing: The good news is that area has fantastic blood supply and so healing will occur rapidly. Inflammation (red, hot, tender swelling) is the body increasing the blood flow to the injury to bring healing factors to the area and also the veins expand to carry bad stuff away. Peroxide/ointments are of no value there. Avoid further trauma to the area and let nature take it's course. ...Read more
