Check blood gluc at home daily, upon wake up. Always between 70-95. Yet two recent plasma fasting gluc draws were 111, and 109. Finger test invalid?
Fasting: If the draws were truly fasting, that is without food overnight, then I would advise a different test to evaluate your average blood sugar over time. This is called a hemoglobin A1C. The blood tests are generally more reliable. You may need medication adjustment if you are already diagnosed with diabetes and on medication, or just further evaluation. Ask your practitioner. ...Read more

Temp difference: The axillary temperature is very inaccurate. It is at least one degree less than the oral temperature. However, both are affected by multiple things, such as recently drinking hot/cold liquids, smoking, relative temperature of skin. Also, some thermometers are not designed to take axillary and oral temperatures. ...Read more

Take my temp. several times with digital thermom. Axilar temperature 95.4F,oral temp 97.9F.I know axilar is lower and not accurate but why so low?Txs
Thermometer problems: There are several factors that could explain this discrepancy between an axillary and oral temp. One might be the time you take to record each measurement. Another could be the calibration or settings of the thermometer. Temp naturally varies according to the time of day-- warmer in p.m., cooler in early a.m. Have you tried different positions in the armpit to get the highest (& best) reading? ...Read more

21 YO daughter diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Has one touch meter, very expensive strips. Is ReliOn Meter/strips as accurate? Affordability issues.
Glucometer: Test strips can cost from less than 50 cents a strip to as much as $2 a strip. You should call your insurance company to find out which meter and strips are preferred. Many meters have bells and whistles that cost. A simple but accurate glucose meter should be adequate. The FDA sets accuracy guidelines for meters and Relion meter has passed these guidelines. ...Read more
