Variation: Hi. Yes, that would be considered probably acceptable variation. They would generally probably be tighter, but if your control solution gets measured in the appropriate range, then your meter is probably meeting performance standards. Lower the Dose: What do you mean by "not suited." If you suffered an allergic rash (which is rare), you're right. However, if you're experiencing gastric distress and diarrhea--just lower the dose to whatever you can tolerate, be it halves, quarters, or even crumbs. Continue at the reduced dose until you feel comfortable, then gradually increase the dose. You should develop tolerance to it in weeks or months. ...Read more

How accurate is a glucometer?

They are quite good: Constantly changing technology and designs have improve ease of use as well as acuracy of current glucometers..I would say around 5-10 points of actual blood levels when tested at a certified laboratory. They are meant to guide you with controlling your diet/food consumptions to maintain a good sugar level. Having diabetes is tough! fllow-up with doc regularly. Good luck. ...Read more

All similar: Pain tolerance varies from person to person. All the glucometers work similarly. Some of the lancet devices may be a bit different, but all poke a hole to make the blood come out. I like the ones that come from Bayer (aspirin) company, but i'd ask a pharmacy what they sell the most of and what their feedback is. No such thing: Hi. There's no such thing as a "strip-free glucometer". Sorry, but at least for the time being, you're stuck buying strips! If you're tightly controlled using insulin, you could consider a continuous glucose monitor with your doctor; with the Dexcom, you only have to use a strip + glucometer every 12 hours for calibration. But no matter what, you're stuck buying strips for now. ...Read more
