My right tonsil is bigger than my left one and it has a hole in it like a crater and I have a sore throat what is wrong?
If you have a cold: If you have a cold this could be a normal response. Tonsils swell when we are fighting throat infections, and often they bear the scars of the battle. Abscesses can form and rupture leaving craters. Best to check with your doctor. They may be able to help you clear your throat infection faster. If findings on your tonsils persists after your cold resolves, additional testing may be needed. ...Read more

I've had a severe sore throat for 5 days now and have now noticed a large hole in one of my tonsils. The side with the hole hurts a lot more. Am I OK?
Pharyngitis: This sounds quite painful and you should see a doctor today. Infections of the throat can be severe, and you may have spotted a localized tonsillar infection/abscess that spontaneously drained-leaving the 'hole'. I think antibiotics would clear that up pretty quickly-but you need a diagnosis and proper treatment. Please go to a Casualty Room now or see your primary doc today. Hope you feel better. ...Read more

I have a sore throat so I took a picture to see if it was red but turns out I have huge holes in one of my tonsils that weren't there before?
It's normal.: I quite an answer below: The tonsils gather up rubbish, germs and stuff and push them out through those "holes". Yes, it smells AWFUL, but it's waste material that needs to be expelled because if it stays in the body, it could cause infections and other problems. They are doing their jobs. Good luck! ...Read more
I looked at my throat and my tonsils look like the moon with craters and one is bigger then the other. Sore throat. I think from allergies, normal??
Probably viral: Think of tonsils like stations where your immune system can work and live. From there the immune system can fight off infections in the head and neck area more effectively. Considering your sore throat, the enlarged tonsils are likely signs that your immune system is fighting a viral or bacterial illness, rather than allergies. The size difference isn't a big concern either, as this is common. ...Read more
I have a very sore throat, one side, and a noticable white spot, almost pus-like, on tonsil, same side. It's 1am. Can I wait till tomorrow to be seen?
Yes, you can wait: Try hot salt water gargle. Alternate with straight 3% hydrogen peroxide gargle. Also, try an over the counter cough drop (Hall's, Cepacol, etc) to ease the discomfort. High-dose Vitamin D3 may help--I recommend 10, 000 IU/day, until you are well. Then cut to 5, 000 IU per day. Should be able to get most of this stuff in an all-night drug store or convenience store. ...Read more

Have what looks like a blister with a white center where one tonsil used to be. Sore throat and nephew had strep about a week ago, could I have strep?
It's possible: Generally with "classic" strep throat the tonsils are red, have pus on them, but it sounds like you had your tonsils removed? You could still get a strep infection, just not strep tonsillitis. The only way to really know is to get a simple strep test - takes about 5 min to do. See your MD or go to an urgent care (NOT the ER!) There's no home remedy for strep, so if it's positive you need meds! ...Read more

I have an extremely sore throat on one side. Right tonsil is very swollen with potruding dark red pimple like spot. This came out of nowhere.
Throat infection: The symptoms that you have described sound like your tonsil could be infected. Although an infection could be caused by a virus, it may be due to a bacterial infection. You should see a doctor and have your throat tested for Strep. A doctor can also determine if there is an abscess in your tonsil. Antibiotics and possible drainage of an abscess would be warranted in that case. ...Read more
