Very possibly: Diabetic renal disease often causes swelling. Certain meds for lupus can (especially prednisone). Certain meds for BP can (especially Norvasc/amlodipine). Unless you have a rash/allergy, the itching is likely unrelated. ...Read more

Drug effect?: Leg edema may occur when one is taking calcium-channel blocker type of drugs to control high bp. However, heart or kidney failure as well as varicose veins can cause it too. I will make sure that it is not caused by drug but in the meanwhile get a thorough medical evaluation. ...Read more

The condition you describe is volume overload, and in the patient you describe, either congestive heart failure and/or advanced kidney disease would be the most likely cause(s).
