One Of My Twins Died Do I Have Options To Protect The Surviving Twin
Somewhat: When one twin dies in-utero there can be great shifts in the blood flow to the other fetus particularly if they share the same placenta. To make certain the remaining baby can hadle those shifts the baby is kept on the monitor, observed by ultrasound. If after a short time the baby looks stable then mom can go home with close follow up. As with any thing check with your provider. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
One of my twins died in utero, will doctors be able to find out if they were identical or fraternal?
Doc should know: Likely your doctor has ultrasound images that can tell fairly well if the babies shared a placenta and/or sac or not. That's detectable as early as 9 weeks of pregnancy, assuming you had an ultrasound in the first trimester. If your loss occurred earlier than that in the first trimester, then likely the doctor cannot tell if they were identical or not. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I just found out that one of my twins has died (i am at 12 weeks). Will this cause a problem for my other baby?
Condolences for your: Loss. As sad as the day is there is a possibility that the remaining twin can carry on & deliver. Close monitoring by your OB will be important. You need to understand that you may still go into labor early or face other pregnancy complications.A good sit down discussion with your OB may clarify specific issues about your case that only the two of you know. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Twin demise: The effect on the remaining twin depends upon whether they are fraternal or identical twins. With identical twins, the death of one can cause the death of the other and has been associated with mental retardation in the remaining twin. With fraternal twins, the death of one usually doesn't effect the other twin. ...Read more

Most likely yes: Although there is no guarantee, you have a good chance to deliver healthy baby. I have seen many situations like that: one twin dies and gets absorbed, and second twin survives and is born healthy later. ...Read more
@ 11wks i ahd scan i had twins, the other died and now am @ 13 weeks wil the healthy twin survive as today i had ascan& the baby is growing well?
Probably: Early loss in multiple gestations is a fairly common occurrence. If the surviving fetus is showing appropriate interval growth then chances are good that the surviving fetus will go to term. When twins share a single placenta the death of one often has a very negative effect on the survival of the second. Barring that situation or another underlying problem i think you can be hopeful. ...Read more
10 weeks pg, discovered there are 2 sacs, sac 1. The baby has a heart and is active. Sac 2 the baby is dead.I lost twins 5 months ago. What will happen ?
I 'm sorry.: Your OB should talk to you, but this is a "blighted twin" or intrauterine demise that probably occurred because the fetus had a lethal anomaly or chromosomal imbalance. The demised fetus will be removed when your other twin delivers or be slowed reabsorbed within the uterus. A medical geneticist is often helpful in determining if there is a chromosomal imbalance given your previous losses. ...Read more
Nothing You Can Do: I'm sorry for your twin loss. The good news is that you had a twin pregnancy with separate sacs & placentas. When a demise occurs, the unaffected twin should continue the same as a single gestation. Have your OB refer for a nuchal thickness ultrasound, follow growth with us & good luck with your pregnancy. The non-surviving twin usually resorbs & will not affect the surviving twin. Take care. ...Read more
