1 month old, formula feed infant has dark green poop that smells like skunk (sometimes stringy looking)...baby is gassy as well. Is this normal?
Could be: The first thing I would want to make sure is that your child is gaining weight appropriately and thriving. If that is the case, there are numerous things that could be of help, such as different formulas. That decision can be best made with your child's doctor who will know what formula your child is and/or has been on. Good luck. ...Read more
Define constipation: Your typical breast fed baby can have a little poo smear every feeding or one giant blowout every 7-10 days. Bottle fed go daily. If soft, I don't consider it constipation. ? colic: This may be a form of colic versus food intolerance. Both can involve lots of gas and discomfort. If your baby is breast fed, then I would remove all dairy form your diet for a trial of a week. If taking formula, would try one that may be gentler. Also in the US, we are using probiotiics for upset tummies in babies. See if you can find Gerber colic drops, or the equivalent. Hope this helps ...Read more

Well...: I guess you could but they are treating two different things. Colief is just lactase and used to treat lactose intolerance. Some people think colic is transient lactose intolerance. Why: The nutrition in formulas is superior to that of cereal. The added material does not improve nutrition & to counter common myth, it doesn't make them sleep better. When you start cereal it should be with a spoon in paste form to teach a new method of feeding. The one exception to this is thickening formulas to help with reflux.Formula powder is preferable to cereal but some use it. ...Read more
