Depends: It depends on the multivitamin. Several of them have doses of the areds supplements which are similar or equal to those of the areds study. In addition, the areds 2 study demonstrated that 25mg of zinc (a level not much higher than most multivitamins) was just as effective as 80 mg. Bottom line - read the label to be sure. Xeloda-oxali: You may want to stop your multivitamins while you are on xeloda as Folic Acid may exgerate side effect of xeloda. Likely fine: If yours is a vitamin family, i see no problem in common supplements. A well balance nutrition, rest and exercise support normal growth in kids. Most of these supplements leave the body in the urine the day they are given. I caution parents to avoid excesses of vitamin a, e, d or k as these fat soluble vitamins do store up in the bodies fat cells and can produce problems. ...Read more
Sure: Many of my physician colleagues take an inexpensive vitamin-and-mineral supplement. I don't personally know any physician who takes antioxidants or believes they offer health benefits. I bet Junior will be most grateful in the long run if you offer him good-tasting, nutritious food and especially have times when the family exercises together. ...Read more
