I stopped taking the pill after 5 years; how long is normal to wait for your first natural period? And when is it a time to take a test if still late?

Varies: Some texts will report that it can take up to a year to have a regular cycle. But, you should have a period (in any capacity) within a few months. If you have absolutely no bleeding/period for more than 2 months after stopping, I would recommend you see your physician. It still may be normal, but I would recommend checking at that point. ...Read more

The best pill would be provera (medroxyprogesterone). If you took Provera (medroxyprogesterone) for 7-10 days a normal response is that you would have a peroid. If no peroid then further testing is needed. ...Read more

I've been on the pill for 4 years - why have my periods gotten progressively lighter?

I've been on the pill for 4 years - why have my periods gotten progressively lighter?

Light periods: The reason for the light periods is that most pills now have relatively low estrogen levels. Estrogen is responsible for the thickening of the uterine lining. This effect is even more pronounced in women who are thin since additional estrogen-like stimulation is produced by the bodies fat cells. It's not at all harmful to have light periods. Common: It's very common for women who've been on the pill for a while to have little or no periods. This is due to the thinning of the lining which is very common with low dose bcps. As long as you're taking the pills daily on schedule without having to double up missed pills, risk of pregnancy is very low. Run a pregnancy test just to be sure. But continue the pills on schedule if negative. ...Read more

Maybe: You will have to track them over time. The pills have no long term effects after you stop taking them. Now you are back to whatever is normal for you.
