Currently taking 40mg omeprazole 4 gerd, recently, have excessive acid (ea) which results in severe heartburn even with ppi. What can causes for ea b?
I have had Acid Reflux with heartburn for two months. Treated for GERD with omeprazole, now have clicking sounds while swallowing. On homeopathy meds.
See GI doctor.: Your symptom suggests that there may be some degree of obstruction to the passage of food. A condition known as eosinophilic esophagitis may present with symptoms of GERD and in fact often responds to drugs like omeprazole. However in this condition, scarring may lead to narrowing or closure of the esophagus. Most sufferers have allergic asthma or hay fever. Check with GI doctor now. ...Read more

GERD: is a "finding" by studies (X RAY.....GASTROSCOPY) and may be completely ASYMPTOMATIC! Thus your pain is NOT explained by GERD but the normal studies should be encouraging! I was diagnosed with gerd. Been taking omeprazole daily for years. It helps, but the package says take only for two weeks. Is daily use ok?
Usually: Daily ppi use for gerd should be reserved for those that have be or worse enough symptoms to warrant its daily use. The side effect profile is very good, however more evidence is being accumulated regarding potential side effects with long term use. You want to slowly titrate off and see what happens. Discuss with your doctor as you may need an egd. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

See Gastroenterology: If you have been on Omeprazole and taking it daily for over a month, and have changed your diet appropriately, then you need to be further evaluated. Suffer from chronic gerd. No Barrett's. Is it better to stay on omeprazole long term, or have surgery?
Pros & cons: Avoid issues that delay stomach emptying &/or relax LES--spicy, greasy food, mints, alcohol, tobacco, chocolate, tomato-based products, caffeinated & fizzy drinks, eating before bedtime. Lose weight. Elevate head of bed on blocks. Acid blockers are generally safe, but long-term PPI's can promote bone-thinning, low magnesium, C.difficile--balance against risks of Barrett's & diminished lifestyle. ...Read more
I have been taking 20th omeprazole 2 a day for 6 months. Recently it stopped working. Bad GERD pain. Could I be to alkaline now?
GERD not controlled.: No, the problem is not that your stomach is too alkaline, but that you still have acid reflux which is not well controlled, now that you're not taking omeprazole any longer. At this point your best bet is to continue antireflux measures and to see a gastroenterologist, since your symptoms seem to be persistent. You may need tests and/or medication longterm. Good luck. ...Read more
Hi. Is omeprazole(prilosec) in general and in shirt term use a safe option to treat acid issues/gerd. I have read some pretty worrisome side effects.
Yes: In general, Prilosec has been used for numerous years. As with many medications, there are numerous potential adverse effects. However, "proton-pump inhibitors"/ppi's have been studied and shown to be generally safe to use. Most adverse effects with Prilosec are not the result of short term use. It is important for you to discuss all your medications with your personal physician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My endoscopy results came up normal. Should I just take omeprazole whenever my GERD flares up or just treat it naturally? Is omeprazole bad over time?
Use it sparingly: Omeprazole is safe used occasionally but it is associated with problems when taken long term. This type of drug is associated with risks of pneumonia, malabsorption of nutrients and bone density loss. If you can figure out natural ways to avoid the reflux it would be best. If you only use the omeprazole occasionally it should be fine. ...Read more
If I take omeprazole once a day if I get pain from GERD can I also take pepto bizmol & a watson 3202 for pain?
Can i take omeprazole and Zantac (ranitidine) extra strength pill together since the omeprazole doesn't work much with my gerd?
Yes, but chk it out: You can use both medications if you need them to control your significant gerd/reflux trouble, but i would advise checking it out with your doc to see why you are having such bad reflux. An infection such as helical pylori causing gastritis/ulcers? Hiatal hernia? Nonulcerative dyspepsia? Minimize alcohol, caffiene, and minty/spicy foods n don't eat before bed. Don't smoke. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I'm taking omeprazole 20mg for gerd. I get extremely nauseated , but only after i eat. This happens almost every time. Is this ok?
Doctor can evaluate: A doctor can evaluate to see what might be going on. Maybe there is a gallstone or gall bladder sludge problem. Sometimes the gerd or gastritis is still happening despite taking the medication. The stomach emptying time may be taking too long. A GI specialist can help figure things out, try additional treatments, and/or do an upper endoscopy to see how things look in the esophagus and stomach. ...Read more
I've had acid reflux for some time now i'm on 20 mg of omeprazole can I still get the symptoms of GERD is seems to come and go recently?
Maybe its not reflux: Lack of response to acid suppression ; antacids raises several possibilities: 1) you have excessive acid production; 2) your reflux is of non-acid material; 3) your esophagus is severely inflamed, infected, or ulcerated; 4) you have heightened esophageal sensitivity; 5) your dose of Omeprazole may be too low; 6) your present symptoms are not reflux-related. Suggest evaluation for diagnosis please. ...Read more
