Depends on risks: For those at low risk for colorectal polyps/cancer (no personal or family history of polyps/cancer, no other risks), every ten years if no adenomatous polyps are found. If polyps are found, the interval is shorter: every five years is usual unless polyps are large or multiple. Btw, Omeprazole inhibited polyps in rats; the same has not been found in humans, but Omeprazole can cause gastric polyps! ...Read more

Infection/absorption: The most common concerns are infection, electrolytes, and metabolic bone disease. The stomach acid kills bacteria. Less acid may cause GI infections and pneumonia (from reflux into the lungs). Decreasing acid may cause malabsorption leading to changes in the blood salts (electrolytes). I have pain just below the arm on my chest for three days and I used omeprazole which reduced the pain. Should I contineou taking omeprazol?

See Doctor: This could be heartburn & taking a ppi like omeprazol can help. However, you need to see the dr to make sure it is heartburn & not something else. Also, if you have been having pain for awhile, your dr may want to check if you have gerd & if it is causing changes to your esophagus (called barretts). Yes: Omeprazole is a drug in the so called proton pump inhibitor class where most of them are over the counter now: Lansoprazole or Pantoprazole, for example. If it is believed that Omeprazole is causing you severe B12 deficiency through its class action, then chances are all drugs in the same class may cause it, too. You might need to get your B12 in a different form or try a different class. ...Read more
