Omega 3 Medication
My insurance company will no longer cover my prescription for Omega-3 Acid Ethyl Esters. Can you recommend a viable substitute for this medication.
Use HealthTap Prime.: This is a complex question, which is hard to answer in 400 characters. Use HealthTap Prime to get doctor's informed advice. What's the Omega-3 EEs used for? What condition's being treated? Most Omega-3 EEs are made from fish oil. Eating more fish & using OTC fish oil capsules are 2 possible alternatives. But again, use HealthTap Prime to discuss pros & cons of this approach as EEs are lower in fis ...Read more
I put my Zoloft (sertraline) and ritalin and omega 3 tablets in a bag in a portable file box. Can this be hot or bad for medications' effectivity ?
May be bad: Remember, meds are designed to melt inside you. That's 37 degrees celsius or 98.6 fahrenheit. I'm not sure how warm it is in lebanon in january, but if your portable file is getting hot, it's not good for your medicines which generally should be stored in a cool, dry place. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I suffer from depression and i would like to try either omega-3 or st. John's wart as an alternative to medications. Will this effect my 81mg aspirin?
Bleeding: St. John's wort does not directly affect the same coagulation pathway as aspirin, but can affect your platelets, making them less "sticky." along with fish oil you could experience more bleeding. St. John's wort can be effective for mild-moderate depression. High epa omega-3 oils are helpful in depression, but aren't a stand-alone treatment. Please consider psychotherapy; it can help greatly. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
My endo prescribe me 5 mg tapazole (methimazole) should I stop taking omega 3, vit ? Is there any natural treatment for grave desease ? I am scared with medication
Grave's Disease: You should not have any fears of taking tapazole (methimazole). The medication has been around for over 30 years and works well for the treatment of grave's disease. There are no proven natural treatments for grave's disease. You should not stop omega 3s or vitamins, however, during your treatments. The disorder should resolve in 1-2 years and you should no longer need the tapazole (methimazole). Do not fear taking this. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Doc wants me to take three 300mg of krill oil daily after my omega 3 test came back. I had been taking 1 krill plus a fish oil daily. Is this unusual?
EPA ; DHA: Fish oil and krill oil have 2 major components: epa and dha. Generally people need at least 1-2 grams of epa, and at least 500 mg dha daily. The preparations you were using may not have delivered this much of each component in the capsules you were taking, so you needed more. Please know that if you eat wild alaskan salmon, sardines, etc at least twice each week, you may not need supplements. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Hello, I have Nutrilite heart health omega-3 supplement, but It says to take 3 softgels per day before meals. Can I take all three softgels at once?
You Like Fish Burps?: Better to split them up. Better absorbed with food. If you don't eat three meals a day then take two with one meal and one with another. but in this case food will help. Or, take the third with a healthy snack. Taking all three at once won't hurt but you want to get your money's worth, right? Also, if you eat some salmon that day, you can skip the supplement. The "real" thing is always better ...Read more

Read labels: Look at the details of the supplement. Many fish oil supplements actually have very little omega 3's in them, & it's often difficult to tell what else is in them. Epa dha are the omega 3's most studied/shown to be beneficial, but often r not the main part of the fish oil supplement. As unregulated products u can't know 100%, but at least make sure they list the good things as the main components. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
